The Rangers brain trust is meeting about possible demotions and call ups.

That's really going to help. :handclap:

Not the veteran guys because they require waivers. They had to be on waivers today.

Cluster**** of an organization.

Quick! Bring in Miller.

He will save this team!

They have $20M tied up long term in defensement (AP, JB, SHattenkirk, and Pollack)
Steen is a UFA this summer and neither of their goalies are under contract next year. They are not a franchise that will spend up the cap next year.

Maybe Shattenkirk is a guy they would consider dealing as part of a larger package.
We have peices that could help them take a run this year (callahan, Girardi), and also have a cheaper replacement for Shattenkirk in MDZ.

I am sure they love Shattenkirk, but economics plays into it for them.

Have not considered Shattenkirk available, but could agree to the right package for him.

Can we do a huge deal for Shattenkirk + Taraschenko w/o giving up Kreider?

Callahan + Stepan + MDZ + Girardi
for
Shattenkirk + Taraschenko + couple of pieces of dead wood for cap/picks/prospects?

They lose 2 solid pieces and Girardi is a tough extend, so they have to decide to keep for flip for a righty D themselves. But Stepan is a solid block to build on, MDZ a keeper, and they have a reasonable shot at Callahan

And in advance I disagree about how weak we get at C.

Objective must be more total talent. Then when you have enough talent you move stuff around to get more complementary.

Brassard did well last season w/top minutes spelling Stepan.

Let us see how well he plays 1C with high end Ws showcasing for his contract year!

Second most valuable franchise in the sport, and it is run by a dog as well as a pony.

Seriously, why do any of us even bother, anymore? I think I'm gonna get a hobby....like model trains or Liquid Plumber sommellier.

Yup, Im sure a top notch team like St. Louis would want to get into a 6+ player deal. You've done it again, bernmeister

Just listened to Pierre McGuire talk about the Rangers today after doing last night's game. Said the team is collapsing, looking to make moves.

Talked to a Ranger player and called them team weirdo, when asked what's going on, the player said he had no idea regarding their play. Said they lost their identity, team is not hard to play against, Rick Nash playing iffy. Some guys playing hurt. Said coaching change is a big issue. Said Lundqvist exposed under Man on Man D, system gives up 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities. Called it the ultimate roller coaster team this season.

Not to get too off-topic, but this is exactly why I wanted Ruff in here, and not AV. He has a much better reputation about getting more out of less than AV does. This Rangers roster is similar to the ones Ruff had success with in Buffalo.

Girardi isn't a square-peg into a round hole, AV is.

Now the GM needs to re-tool, and build the team to his coach - because that's not how this team was set up from the get go. This coach won't be able to re-tool his entire system to this team.

Sather doesn't have to go (he should, but he doesn't have to). He just needs to open his eyes.

You're right, but we would still be better off, ultimately, to be like Chicago and not do better w/less, but get more horses so we can do better with more.

Rangers can call up and demote players all they want (perhaps they were inspired by Pitt's prospects last night), but, at this moment, the answers to turning this team around lie outside the organization.

The Rangers need to get rid of the deadweight, underachievers, uninspired, and/or any other remaining players who have no place on this team beyond this year. Sather's involvement should be as limited as possible. Target promising players and prospects in other organizations like they did with McDonagh and Prust years back.

The late 80's-90's Red Wings and the Red Wings into the 2000's had some of the same players but they were like two very different teams. The former bunch would win Cups eventually too and had guys like Probert, Kocur and McCarty. Most importantly they had guys like Steve Yzerman and Niklas Lidstrom but Probert just for one could be a really effective hockey player and was one of the best fighters in NHL history. A kind of changing of the guard eventually with Zetterberg and Datsyuk and Lidstrom just lasted forever but not sure they would have got the same traction if it were not for the Bruise brothers pretty much at the beginning of all that.

IMO Bobby Orr--not just the best defenseman ever but the best player ever. I'd rank him above Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe, Messier, Lindros (deserves mention--for several years he was the best player in the NHL) and Crosby. Lidstrom is arguably the 2nd best d-man ever--but there would be arguments as well for the much hated in these parts Denis Potvin, Ray Bourque, Brian Leetch, Paul Coffey, Doug Harvey and a handful of other pre WWII d-men. Orr revolutionized his position--the only other player I could think to say that of was Wayne Gretzky.

You and I don't always agree but on this we do.

Katie Strang on twitter:

#NYR Certainly sounds as if there will be some moves made in advance of tonight's roster freeze.

AV and Sather are moving some office furniture around before the roster freeze tonight. Better feng shui will bring success after the holidays.

I feel like I need to go out and get myself a bottle of whiskey for this.

Maybe an Elijah Craig 12? That should ease some of the pain!

i honestly stopped trusting anything from katie strang when she suggested buying out nash instead of richards this offseason
