Anyone else love to add Matt Greene in the offseason?

even if he gets hurt as much as he does, id love that grit and toughness on this blueline.. Oilers were stupid to trade him and Stoll for Visnovsky although he was better on the Kings than he was on the Oilers.

I would, but he's more of a neanderthal system type of player. Not enough skill for the high flying, high scoring AV team we have now.

He's also big, strong physical, and has no future potential to talk about. Very much a known quantity, no hype in his game for the fanboys to fantasize about.

Hopefully McKenzie is right about no trade being imminent. At least four more games with this roster. Av dresses Asham and he plays one shift after the first period. Freeze ends on the 28th. Rangers first game back is on the 27th. Next 8 games. Islanders. Wild. TO. Wraps up the home stand. 4 points out of a possible 12 so far. 5 game trip to the Caps,TB,FLA,Pitt and TO. Look on the bright side. The Rangers will probably spend NYE in South Beach. They deserve it after playing so well.

So it's a week but the cap still counts right? So send mcilrath , asham down to save, maybe waive Pyatt and do the same?

He would make a good compliment to an offensive DMan, I would think.

Love Matt Greene but he is old and broken down...

Good GM's take Del Zotto and turn him into a mean dman like Greene from 6-8 years ago and Stoll who is a very effective player.

We trade DZ and we get back Marek Zidlikcy in return.

The only GM who might be worse than Sather right now is Jay Feaster and he just got fired.

I'd kill for Evander Kane and maybe Byfuglien. Both can shoot the lights out and hit a ton. Buff gives us the RH point shot and a big body on the back end. Just don't gave the pieces to sacrifice for them.

The Oilers won that trade pretty significantly, but then they were stupid enough to trade him away for the ever useless Ryan Whitney. Visnovsky has been pretty much the most underrated D-man in the league for the past 5 years.

There is a pretty good argument that the addition of Visnovsky (and to a lesser extent picking up Hickey) was what brought the Isles from basement dwellers to playoff team. They have been beyond awful ever since his injury.

There was a time when Del Zotto was better than Franson. It's not today.

Last two seasons:
Del Zotto: 73 GP, 5 G. 23 A, 28 Pts, 0.73 ESP/60, 3.19 PPP/60
Franson: 79 GP, 5 G, 40 A, 45 Pts, 0.92 ESP/60, 6.21 PPP/60

And Franson gets the tougher defensive assignments too:

Even with those cushy zone starts, Del Zotto's been a negative possession player relative to his teammates.

Nice place to work on your golf game. A lot of our guys could get a head start booking resorts and hotels there for early April.

I was thinking about Asham. FWIW I like Arron but he's got no future here and keeping in mind AV's contention that he wanted 4 lines going and 6 D--if you're not going to actually use some of your forwards what the hell is the difference? Rangers had no sustained forecheck going last night--some of our guys seem incapable of getting in fast and pressuring the other team hard. Too many softies IMO. All the young inexperienced d-men the Pens had and they didn't even have to work hard.

ugh...i didnt realize how far he's fallen...

Sounds like Pyatt is a goner soon. Sather likely told him we will try and deal you and if not waivers is likely

But Del Zotto has been great and our 2nd best dman.
