Designated whipping boys CANNOT play better once theyve been designated, so says HF logic.

Del Zotto has improved. Takes more initiative. More into the game - passion. Shoots 3-4x a game. Some games in the past he didn't even attempt a shot.

I don't know if he's surpassed Girardi in play yet. Certainly over the last 2 game sample size he's been better than Stralman - but his mistakes may be due to losing one of the most defensively responsible players we had on the blue line as his partner.

That being said, still not the point shot we need - still not the puck mover we need.

The team needs some restructuring.

I think you're confusing Franson with another player, because he is a puck mover and not a crease clearer in any sense of the phrase.

Dammit, who am I thinking of then. Could have sworn there was a guy on Toronto I had seen a few times that just bullied our players away from the goalie (not named Phaneuf).

Couldn't be further from the truth. Much closer to Kurtis Foster than a Matt Greene. He's been accused of being "soft", but the dude has a bomb from the point, and can QB the powerplay, while handling defending 3rd and 4th line forwards. Toughness is not something he brings. Miles from it.

I could see him hit Marek Malik level of proportions given how adverse he is to playing the man along the boards.

I wouldn't put a lot of weight into anything Dreger reports from a Leafs perspective. Franson is significantly worse with a lot more holes than Del Zotto with less career acumen to back him up. Plus he's an upcoming RFA who just put the Leafs through a wringer with negotiations. Go for Gardiner, that's the only young D of theirs aside from Reilly that actually holds value.

Dreger is also the same guy that reported the Leafs would never trade Reimer for Yakupov because Reimer's value is too high. This is the type of garbage you get when you have a reporter who is Nonis' cousin.
