Um, yea. If you give Bickel a top-six forward opportunity he probably won't grab it either. What were they expecting?

I think he meant with the injuries and other issues, extended minutes showed Pyatt to not be effective at all, even for a 4th liner. We knew this, but clean slate.

The Sharks and Wings do so. Even starting to employ it in rookie scouting. It's part of the reason the Sharks paid the Wings so much to move up to grab Hertl a while back. They knew the Wings were looking at him too.

I figured if any, those two clubs for sure. I'd love to see Sather replaced with someone who believes in that system. I may not like baseball, but it works. I'm a firm believer in having the "right" players over the "best" players.

Kevin Allen explored the trade Callahan and Girardi angle

The case to trade them

Gritty Callahan and Girardi were both symbolic of Tortorella’s style of play. Girardi seems to be having less impact under coach Alain Vigneault. Trading captain Callahan further symbolizes the move in another direction under Vigneault.

The Rangers are still in the hunt to finish third in the Metropolitan, but it might be possible for them to stay in that hunt and still trade these guys. With many teams fighting salary cap issues, the Rangers might be able to get a veteran and a prospect and/or draft pick in return for each of those players. You could trade one for veteran help and the other for draft picks and prospects.

There is a league-wide romance with both of those players because of their intangibles. Both seem to be more valuable in the playoffs. If the Rangers just let it play out, they could leave New York. They would be among the hottest free agents. They would both get big offers.

The Rangers would have more salary cap room if they leave next summer, but no extra prospect or draft pick. Girardi’s situation under Vigneault might simply be a square peg-round hole situation.

I guess Kevin Allen hasn't watched a lot of Rangers playoff games the past few years, otherwise he wouldn't be saying "both [Callahan and Girardi] seem to be more valuable in the playoffs". Hopefully some other teams buy this myth as well, it could only help with the potential return in a trade.

Vigneault was sold as the guy that would get the most out of this roster.

Now its already time to move in a new direction. This entire thing is a mess.

No doubt. Renney was holding back the team, get Torts... "Safe is death".

We then turned into the "6 goalie system", and now Torts was holding us back... Vigneault will help us open up this team.

Now there is talking of trading Girardi, Callahan, DZ, who have been main players for a while now.

All while The Cuban Cigar Wonder is still in control.

Not to get too off-topic, but this is exactly why I wanted Ruff in here, and not AV. He has a much better reputation about getting more out of less than AV does. This Rangers roster is similar to the ones Ruff had success with in Buffalo.

Girardi isn't a square-peg into a round hole, AV is.

Now the GM needs to re-tool, and build the team to his coach - because that's not how this team was set up from the get go. This coach won't be able to re-tool his entire system to this team.

Sather doesn't have to go (he should, but he doesn't have to). He just needs to open his eyes.

Sign Ruff, trade for Briere, drag Drury out of his pizzaria - problem solved.

Is still don't understand the idea of trying to build a roster around a coach.

Seems more logical to build a roster with a common well thought out strategy in mind and then find a coach who thinks in the same capacity.

I don't know who was buying it.

I do believe that AV is a better mind behind the bench as it perrtains to offensive hockey than Torts, but the fact is this team is still the same team it was last year.

too small, slow and not physical enough in the top 6

too to slow and a major lack of offensive skill/awareness in the bottom 6

AV could only get so much for a very VERY flawed roster.

Unfortunately, you just put more thought into a long term plan than Rangers management has in at minimum the last decade.

Agreed. Finding one coach is much easier then finding 23 right players.
