Shattenkirk isn't an option. He's an important piece for the blues.

Now, if you want the next Shattenkirk, give Chicago a call and see if you can pry Adam Clendening away from them.

He would look good next to McD or Moore.

Briere would probably come cheap from the Habs right now. Stuck on the fourth line. Can't get minutes. Will probably be a healthy scratch soon enough.

Issue is, he's signed through next season @$4mm... He's 36, undersized, hasn't really played all that well (obviously).

He can however get to the dirty areas of the ice. He's small, but plays big. He could be a great piece on the PP in front of the opposing teams net. Dirty goals. I think the Rangers could eat the $4 million next year if necessary. Veteran leadership, too. A guy who's been there.

Send DZ + middling prospect like Bourque for Briere and Diaz. Or DZ and Pouliot/Pyatt.

Glen Sather circa 2003, is that you?

TJ Oshie is a better player than Callahan, and I'd rather have Oshie. But I wouldn't trade Callahan for Oshie straight up, that doesn't make sense. It's an upgrade, but there are better pieces he can fetch us. I love Oshie, though.

Adam Clendening would be a dynamite partner for McDonagh in the future, agreed.

I think he projects as a 2nd pairing PP specialist. Not sure he's solid enough defensively to get 1st pairing minutes, similar to Shattenkirk in that regard.

The thing is, if he pans out that way and McIlrath doesn't turn into a top pairing guy (which I don't think he will), then we've got two RHD fighting for that 2nd pairing spot. If this team is looking towards the future, a 2nd pairing RHD might not be the guy they're looking for. All that before you even consider what to do with Stralman.

Why would we trade a 23 year old dman who has the potential to put up 40 points a year for a 36 year old reclamation project and a 27 year old, soon to be UFA dman? That's absolutely horrible asset management.

If we aren't getting a similarly aged player in return, there's no point in trading MDZ.

Can't quote all of you

Well. I think a lot of you are going to be sorely disappointed in the moves this team does end up making considering the discussions in this thread.

Yakupov, Kane, Byfuglien, etc....

Having dreams is nice :)

I don't think I could possibly be more disappointed than the prospect of the team acquiring Danny Briere.

I think his numbers/play are seriously deflated this season for controllable reasons. I'm not saying I'm ALL FOR bringing Briere in and I'm on the Briere bandwagon, I'm saying it's an idea.

Right now, he has a 26.7% offensive zone start rate. That's ridiculously low. I'm not going to pretend like I know what any other advanced stats mean, though. That's something I need to learn on my own time.

Danny Briere can come in here, play third or second line minutes, and be a right-hand forward shot on PP2. Something AV craves in his PP. Stepan on PP1, Briere on PP2.

FFS, maybe we could ship Pouliot for Briere straight up. I included Diaz and DZ as it is a conversation that the boards seem to be having.

Like I said, just defending the idea - not necessarily pumping it.

“@PLeonardNYDN: Glen Sather sitting at scratched forward Taylor Pyatt's locker chatting with him. Hmmm #NYR”

Waivers? Assuring him he won't be dealt before the holiday freeze? If something has happened, it would have leaked.

Good thing we have such excellent beat writers to investigate this! Oh, wait.

he is just making sure to remember to invite him to the Christmas Party :sarcasm:

Some of you got it. Three more years of Oshie. Callahan will be a free agent. Oshie at $4.175M cap and $4.5M in annual salary is a better buy than Callahan at 7 years and $6M. The Rangers can't trade everyone for picks. The free agent market stinks and they will need to fill some of the holes. The Rangers have some pieces to trade and they should trade them. Trade Boyle and Moore for second round picks. Callahan. Girardi. Stralman. Some combination of a roster player or two,#1 pick and top prospect for other 3. Add some of the young players such as Miller,Lindberg and McIlrath. Hopefully the Rangers suck enough to get a high pick. Maybe use some of excess picks to trade up for Reinhart. Get a top young forward to add to Kreids,Stepan and Nash. Somehow add a right-handed shooting D. Faulk? Staal or DZ for him.

“@AGrossRecord: Could be something up with Taylor Pyatt. Glen Sather chatting with him in the Rangers room.”

“@stevezipay: AV says not sure what will happen down road with Pyatt. "Right now he's on the outside." Holiday roster freeze tomrow, so keep eye on this”

Pyatt to the Oilers in exchange for Messier's tears and a pack of bubblegum for AV to chew on.

“@PLeonardNYDN: Asked Vigneault if Pyatt's being waived or traded."Not to my knowledge, no." #NYR still talking possible moves before midnight roster freeze”

@AGrossRecord
AV on Taylor Pyatt: "He's on the outside." Said he was given top-six forward opportunities, didn't grab it.

Um, yea. If you give Bickel a top-six forward opportunity he probably won't grab it either. What were they expecting?

Wow, if AV and the organization honestly thought Pyatt was capable of playing in a top 6 role in this stage of his career, then they are worse than assessing talent than I thought. I know Pyatt played with the Sedins when he was in Vancouver, but he is nothing more than a bottom six player now.

Ya.

That quote made me cringe.

Shattenkirk signed an extension last spring. The Blues have no reason to trade him. Shattenkirk is what the Rangers need. Right-handed shot. New Rochelle,NY. Dave Maloney coached him in youth hockey. Garrioch wrote a few weeks ago the Blues are looking to trade TJ Oshie. That is a production and contract issue. 7 goals last season in 30 games in the lockout year. 4 goals so far this season. They have him signed to a 5 year contract and the guy isn't producing. The salary jumps to $4.5M starting next season and it remains $4.5M for the remaining 2 years after next. The Blues are spending a lot of money on their team this season and they aren't a big money team. They can't spend much more than they are currently spending. They have players to re-sign(Steen,Berglund and a goaltender/they don't have a goalie under contract for next season) and probably wouldn't mind dumping the $4.5M on another team. I like Oshie but he has never scored 20 goals in any season. $4.175M cap.

Oshie to the Rangers for Callahan. The Blues dump the remaining $13.5M on the Oshie contract. Callahan helps the Blues in the playoffs. They let him leave as a free agent. The Blues use the Oshie money on their other players. Oshie is a right-handed shot.

I'm confused why you are focusing on his goalscoring record when he has 27 points in 33 games and a key part of our top line. In the current climate, Oshie is cheap at $4.5m. The only way that Oshie gets moved is for a massive overpayment, and Callahan isn't close to being that.

As for Garrioch... he is an idiot who makes stuff up. No better than Eklund.

They have $20M tied up long term in defensement (AP, JB, SHattenkirk, and Pollack)
Steen is a UFA this summer and neither of their goalies are under contract next year. They are not a franchise that will spend up the cap next year.

Maybe Shattenkirk is a guy they would consider dealing as part of a larger package.
We have peices that could help them take a run this year (callahan, Girardi), and also have a cheaper replacement for Shattenkirk in MDZ.
I am sure they love Shattenkirk, but economics plays into it for them.

Not to take this into a Blues thread, but all the same stuff was said last summer that we wouldn't be able to afford Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester & Shattenkirk.

Steen - Backes - Oshie
Schwartz - ????? - Tarasenko
Pääjärvi - Berglund - Jaškin
Sobotka - Lapierre - Reaves
Cracknell/Porter

Bouwmeester - Pietrangelo
Jackman - Shattenkirk
Leopold - Polák
Cole

?????
Allen

We have 15 players (bolded) signed next season and we're spending $39.25m, so we'll have $25m to sign who we need to sign and not spend any more than we are this season.

Stewart is likely to be moved at the end of the year. If someone is asking about Shattenkirk then we'd be expecting a top-6 centre in return.
