So basically, we should be speaking with Edmonton very soon again, no?

Their defense is still abysmal, and loaded with forwards.

Kyper had some speculation about Sather's future. Sather might not want to be GM much longer. Its in the video link with the DZ stuff.

So this coward will probably lock up Girardi and Callahan to long term contracts, which would be the non-controversial thing to do, and leave the mess for the next GM to fix.

oh yeah whose the new gm then? lets leave the personnel decisions up to the rangers section at hfboards.

I can imagine the Rangers with them. 16-17-1 and no way closer to a Cup.

Well you won't have to imagine it soon, it could very well happen one or neither is resigned depending on how this season plays out.

Man I'd love to have Tavares.

I'm guessing he'll be a Ranger come the '18-'19 season.

well i cant help you there.. its always nice to homegrown players come up through the system.. come up through the lineup and become cornerstones..

maybe their time in new york is done.. but its been great watching these guys develop into players no one expected them to become..

and in reality only 1 team wins the cup a season, and there are about 20 teams that depending on circumstances (hot/cold streaks, injuries, schedule) that could win the cup..

there are players who win cups, and players that will not.. cally and danny g are players that win cups..

they were pretty darn close in 2011, ran into a few injuries last season..

Rangerboy said the Rangers organization reads these boards, I sense a spy among us!:sarcasm:

id have to kill you if i told you...

but whats the alternative to sather.. at the end of the day its 10 guys who have been around hockey for years making these decisions on signings and trades.. not just ole glen..

gut the whole organization because they cant get it right 35 games into the season?

I hate to be a grinch this time of year, but I say we back up the truck and sell like we're going out of business.

I know all you have to do is make the playoffs and anything can happen.

But really, is it that easy?

The West is making a mockery of the everyone. If we get in, if we get hot, if we make it through the Bruins and the Penguins, does anyone think we beat the team that makes it out of the West?

I've been watching this drama play itself out for almost 30 years. I don't believe we do.

This could be the most important season in recent Ranger memory because of the contract status of so many players.

Win, lose or draw, most of them can walk away if they choose as UFA's
Callahan
Boyle
Pyatt
Pouliot
Dom Moore
Asham
Girardi
Stralman

Start now. Make all these guys available and hopefully touch off a bidding war. If we wait, guys could be injured when the deadline comes. Start making things happen now. It's too important to hang on to everyone and just see how we do. This is a season where we could restock this system if we play this right. Be the first domino instead of the last for a change.

Humbug.

Sample size is bigger than that and you know it.

I think you'll find quite a few people who agree with you.

It's doubly important because Lundqvist is struggling this year. He has been the major reason we couldn't get a top pick even if the rest of the team sucked. With him struggling this year, might have a real opportunity at a top five pick.

I would prefer to trade Del Zotto and Girardi. Attempt to resign Callahan at something reasonable. Let Poo, Asham, D Moore, and Pyatt all disappear.

Bullocks, go for Stamkos in 2015.

It's been for longer than 35 games this season. This team has lacked an identity and a plan for all 14 years Sather has been at the helm. The 2011-12 season is the lone exception, everything went right that year. Patchwork bandaids in the form of big ticket UFA signings have happene instead of developing our talent from within. Lundqvist, Girardi, Stepan, and possibly Kreider are the only star talents we drafted and/or developed in 14 years. Pathetic.

I'd agree with trading off the UFAs for young talent, other than Stralman. He's been good this year, fits the system, and seems like the type of guy you can sign below value since he's flying under the radar for the most part. I'd try to extend him ASAP. Looking at the contracts of Andrew Ference and Rob Scuderi, I think you can get him for 4 years, 3 mil per. That's well worth it for a solid second pairing RHD.

As far as DZ->MON, I do like a lot of their prospects. There isn't a single guy that I look at as a top tier prospect, but there are a handful of really intriguing prospects. Beyond the top ranked guys, I think Sven Andrighetto, Morgan Ellis, and Darren Dietz could all work in our system. Ellis/Dietz are RHD and Andrighetto is a smallish winger that's super talented offensively. These are all players who seem to improve year-by-year and I consider that a strong indicator of players who have a chance to succeed at the NHL level.

I was about to agree with you on Stralman until I looked at his stat line. 34 games. 3 assists and a minus 7. That earns you 3 million? Holy ****. Karlsson must be worth 30 million then. I like the guy and I think he's better than his stat line. But other teams have pro scouts, and they arent going to let him fly low here. Tell all these guys that we are trading them, but we'll be interested players come next offseason.

See, Sather had the right idea a couple of years back. We had a super solid core of young players who, although may have not been the most gifted in the skill department, fought and clawed their way through games. The fought and clawed for each other too. That dynamic is gone. Do I think adjustments needed to be made from our 11-12 squad? Hell yes, but we just let too many core guys walk.

With that said, outside of Stralman who I actually don't mind, I could see every last one of those players gone. I love Cally. I love G. Hell, I even think Boyle is a hell of a 4th line center, but at the end of the day, if it means adding youthful size and skill, I am fine with seeing them all traded. It'll pain me to see Cally elsewhere, but such is this game. It's changing yet again and you can either get with them times or get blown out.

I do have a question though. Do teams employ a sabermetrics approach to finding players? I've always wondered if there are an organizations who rely heavily on this system.
