They can't just get Eller back, need something else as well. As much as Brassard has frustrated this fan base with his inconsistency, he still has upside. Girardi can provide a stead defense still in this league.

Brassard, Pyatt/Poo, Girardi

for

Eller, Prust, ?

But I thought Girardi was part of the solution...

So we are back to getting Balej type players and 2nd rounders like last time? The thing is when Slats did this before the best young player he got was R.J Umberger who he decided was the only one not to sign. I'm not sure what those picks turned out to be (David Liffiton and more crap?) but I'm not as confident about the returns as most on this board are.

This is the man we are trusting to rebuild......again? I would feel so much better about this if we had a new GM. He has made too many mistakes now and I have zero confidence in him.

:whine:

Very true. He hung on by the skin of his teeth in 2004. If he trades Jagr in that purge, that 05-06 team likely goes without the playoffs again, even with Lundqvist.

That purge netted back nearly zilch in terms of player assets. Luckily they drafted pretty well in '04 and 05.

Looking forward to another spin of the roulette wheel.

Ah, the great purge of 2004. The only things my subconscious hasn't buried yet is Leetch being traded on his birthday and the Josef Balej hype. Quick, someone queue up a video of that deke off his skate while in the A.

Gaunce and 2 picks for a rental (even though Callahan would likely re-sign) is a pretty hefty price for a player we don't really need. Callahan is awesome and I'm a huge fan of his but if Gillis is giving up one of our higher end prospects and a first he would likely go after the elusive Moulson/Vanek type as we do have a lot of heart filled, hardworking grinders already.

Plus he has stated that he doesn't want to give up prime assets for rentals anymore (picks, high end prospects), only for players with some term on their contracts or RFAs.
It's not Gillis that determines the value of Callahan or any other player for that matter and it's definitely not this board
It's this thing called the market. If Gillis is not willing to pay the price, no biggie, we'd rather keep him then trade him for scraps.
How about Edler at 50% for Pyatt?

But there is just a slight destinction between filling out 3-4 bottom roles on a team with kids and moving you top players for very avg prospects.

William Karlsson? Emerson Etem? Vatanen? For Callahan? Girardi?

Reverse it, call up Chi and offer them Lindberg and Allen for Towes.

The best teams has the best players. I don't get the obsession with avg prospects that has avg potential. I mean, if it is for a really specific need and the "avg" prospect is tailor made for that need I could understand it. But...

You don't have to reverse it. When there was a rumor that Brown was made available by the Kings, the rumored asking price was a young Dman and scoring forward. You should go back and read the offers this same board was throwing out there.
Rangers players are worth crap, but other team's players are worth their weight in gold

I can't believe what I just read. Vatanen and Etem are not just "average prospects."

100% this.

I joined this site in 2004 so I went for the Balej hype hook line and sinker. I figured this is hockeyfuture they know their prospects.

Give me 2 minutes on wikipedia and I'll tell you all you need to know about a prospect and their ceiling.

But I thought Girardi was part of the solution...

Don't make **** up and put words in my mouth. I never said he was part of some solution. I simply did not agree with trading him 3-4 weeks ago when we had this discussion, because gee i dont know we were a month into the season and the team had bounced back from a bad start. Were in mid december. The team isn't that good overall. Might as well get something for Girardi and Callahan. Wouldnt mind trading Brassard.

Its very easy to claim youre right and smart when you make trade proposals every other day...

once Miller is ready to play center at NHL level. would you do Brassard to Blues for Chris Stewart??

Edit, nevermind it's not worth it.

Would you trade a green apple jolly rancher for a watermelon jolly rancher? That seems to be the equivalent. New flavor, same ****.
