you'd think MTL would be interested in Mashinter or Asham? I doubt Sather is going to deal Dorsett but maybe if they feel McI is ready to be the muscle (Although two heavyish-weights would be nice)... I think MTL as lost Parros. Poor guy got another fight related concussion.

How about Moore, Dorsett, and Brassard for Subban? :sarcasm:

He already traded Mashinter. The Habs could have claimed Asham.

If you look at teams like Chicago and Anaheim, they use young talent to fill out their bottom lines. Or they might spread those young guys around depending on line chemistry. You don't see players like Pyatt, Pouliot, etc. getting 3rd line minutes.

I don't even consider it rebuilding in the slightest to sell off UFAs for prospects that are borderline ready.

But there is just a slight destinction between filling out 3-4 bottom roles on a team with kids and moving you top players for very avg prospects.

William Karlsson? Emerson Etem? Vatanen? For Callahan? Girardi?

Reverse it, call up Chi and offer them Lindberg and Allen for Towes.

The best teams has the best players. I don't get the obsession with avg prospects that has avg potential. I mean, if it is for a really specific need and the "avg" prospect is tailor made for that need I could understand it. But...

If we completely strip assets and we cash in for a giant pile of "B+ players," they all get to develop together. It helps to make up for us having a pretty bare cupboard due to picking low/trading picks and prospects. Our strength as the Rangers is that no matter how high the cap climbs we'll be able to spend up to it no problem, so we can spend low a couple seasons and flash the cash at the FA period that fits "the end of the rebuild" while key guys are still on team-friendly deals.

I get the logic and I'd give it a chance if by some miracle that's what this ownership/administration chooses to do in this market, but I'm against it for a few reasons. There are some hot, hot messes in this league. I don't think we're bad enough to be the worst team in the league with guys like McDonagh, Staal and Lundqvist, and the difference between a 1st overall and a 5th overall or a 10th overall is pretty big in the aggregate. I'm a "hardcore fan," but watching a tank in slow motion is still miserable. Say what you want about these guys that we have now, but fielding a noncompetitive team is fine when you don't have to watch the thing.

It also creates a pretty horrible culture. Even super-confident pro athletes probably have a good idea of when they're NHL ready and when they're a net negative for the team. It's why I kinda hate seeing JT Miller's trips up here. The kinds of prospects that are being mentioned are the kinds of prospects we can realistically get for our vets, but we can realistically get them because they all need finishing work. Putting out, like, a second line of those kinds of players on a bad team in the NY media market is a very risky gambit.

Callahan can return 1st and prospect. Girardi can return 1st and prospect. It would be nice to gather that for this years draft because we can move up easily or make a big trade for someone who can help now

watch Sather resign Cally and Girardi to long term contracts. for some reason that scares me :help: i hope he is not that stupid

My guess would be Callahan will be. Sather will mess this up somehow, neither one of these guys should have long term deals

I'm expecting at least one of Callahan and Girardi to be resigned, cant see Sather trading them.

Sarcasm.

Nothing will happen until the New Year.

Well then, I guess Santa won't be bringing me what I want for Christmas. Thanks for ruining the holidays.

I am going to say something will definitely happen before the new year. Now all bases are covered.

So can we make fun of Eklund now? It's been a day since he made the sweeping proclamation that the Rangers were trading a defenseman.

Montreal, eh? Brassard would give them another French Canadian. A deal with them can be as small as something as Falk for a pick/prospect or as big as something around Girardi and Pacioretty. Complete speculation on my part.

I wasn't insinuating that you would get those players 1-for-1, sorry if it came off that way. Those are just nice pieces that could be added into a larger deal. Hopefully an early pick, a proven NHL player (mostly for salary purposes), and a prospect. I like all of the players listed to contribute at the NHL level, even though none are surefire "stars".

I know the Rangers need help but wow I think people are over-estimating what the Rangers can get back for their players.....A 1st rounder PLUS top prospect for Cally? or Girardi? That might be their value during other years but not when these guys are going to be UFAs come May...... maybe a good prospect and a later pick or a disappointing player, maybe a bunch of 2nd/3rds but I can't see the bounty you guys do....

Also, it seems like everybody is tripping over themselves to name their favorite prospects they want back in return....In addition to what I mentioned above, do you really think this is the type of trade Sather will make? This is still the team he put together to win (starting with the grand non-buyout of Richards) Do you see him looking to 3-4 years down the line? And then there's AV, I can't see him calling for prospects since he doesn't like to motivate, teach or explain too much,...I'm sorry, I hope i'm wrong (which happens a lot), but I ain't expecting young prospects.. I think any trade will bring NHL veterans back (hopefully younger ones if we are lucky)..We'll see

If Ryane Clowe can get a 2nd, a 3rd, and a conditional 2nd/5th, Callahan can get a conditional 1st/2nd and a good prospect. Not great as in an organizations best prospect but good as in 2-5th best, depending on the player.

So we are back to getting Balej type players and 2nd rounders like last time? The thing is when Slats did this before the best young player he got was R.J Umberger who he decided was the only one not to sign. I'm not sure what those picks turned out to be (David Liffiton and more crap?) but I'm not as confident about the returns as most on this board are.

This is the man we are trusting to rebuild......again? I would feel so much better about this if we had a new GM. He has made too many mistakes now and I have zero confidence in him.

:whine:

Didn't Gaustad get a first too?
