We aren't getting Kulikov for a mid round pick. His value is at least equal to MDZ's right now, which means that if you are trading MDZ and bringing in Kulikov, it's a wash.

I would agree. But I think there is a legit fear Kulikov wants to go to the KHL. Which makes his value much much lower

Lars Eller would be an excellent fit with the Rangers. JJ Daigneault was a former Hartford/CT assistant coach. He is now an assistant in Montreal. Maybe the Habs want a D.I remember reading a few years ago the Hawks liked Brass when he was feuding with Arniel. Bergevin was part of the Hawks front office then.

Eller was the guy I was thinking about, but do the Habs have enough centers to move him? What would they want in return?

Pretty sure Therrien loves Eller. I'd be shocked to see him get dealt.

Edit: I agree with the idea that he would be a good fit with this team though. Big bodied center who can create space for Zuccarello.

Asked on the trade board but I'll ask here too.

Honest question, has Eklund ever broken a deal? I tend to not believe anything that doesn't come from the TSN guys.
Eklund was right on the Hossa-Heatley trade and the Mike Richards and Jeff Carter from Philly trades before anyone else had a sniff on them.

He definitely has sources, if he had a filter he'd be a valuable resource. He doesn't though.

It takes a certain type of player to score in the playoffs. Mike Gartner was great in the regular season. Just like OV now. They are different players in the playoffs. Claude Lemieux was the opposite. The Rangers brought Nash in to be their signature player. No playoff success. Four games played. They can't be surprised he struggled in the playoffs.
16 playoff game - obviously more than enough to draw that conclusion.

And makes the risk that much higher. Don't think that just because this is NYC, he will be happy here. If we trade for him and he continues to struggle, the KHL will still be an option.

Again, I agree. But it does drop his trade value a ton. Worth a mid round pick if you can get him for that

Eller

Has to be. It's the only way moving brassard makes sense

They can't just get Eller back, need something else as well. As much as Brassard has frustrated this fan base with his inconsistency, he still has upside. Girardi can provide a stead defense still in this league.

Brassard, Pyatt/Poo, Girardi

for

Eller, Prust, ?

Doubt Prust comes back. Could see a DMan coming back.

Maybe a prospect like Tinordi?

i doubt this deal even happens. but if it did i wont be shocked if its Tinordi.. Tinordi's dad had some ties to the Rangers but traded him and then broke out with the North Stars

Mark Tinordi was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Rangers on January 4, 1987. Traded to Minnesota by NY Rangers with Paul Jerrard, the rights to Bret Barnett and Mike Sullivan and Los Angeles' 3rd round choice (previously acquired, Minnesota selected Murray Garbutt) in 1989 Entry Draft for Brian Lawton, Igor Liba and the rights to Eric Bennett, October 11, 1988.

Or Beaulieu maybe, but both are left handed shots.

Yea. Depends what they are really looking for defensively.

I didn't spend a ton of time watching the nucks play, so I'm a bit unfamiliar with how they used their D.

Was it similar to how the kings play? A rugged crease clearer + a mobile puck mover on every line?

All two way DMen? How did that go?

Tinordi is a big physical guy. Decent skater but his game is in the dirty areas.

Beaulieu is much more mobile.

I guess a lot depends on how they want their D for the future as well. Who stays? Could easily make the case that everyone apart from Mcilrath, mcdonagh and perhaps Moore won't be here long term

It's turned into a fleecing. But at the time of the trade, no, there was no fleecing.

revisionist history there.

the 5 seasons before the trade to Montreal, Gomez was averaging 68 points a season.

Lets limit it to just the three seasons prior to the deal to help you out Opps, that's not gonna help you here. He averaged 62.6 pts per season

2 years? 64 pts per season.

1st season in Montreal? 59 pts ANNNND 14 pts in 19 PO games.

The fact that Gomez talents nose dived and McDonagh became a top pairing shut down defenceman is LUCK (bad for Montreal and good for the Rangers)

it became a fleece job in hindsight

it was a fleecing as soon as the trade was made. higgins for gomez straight up would have been a win for us.

I think you need to pair Del Zotto with someone else to get a good return.

Kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Brassard and Del Zotto together. Get a 2nd line center in return. Give a team depth for talent.

Then I think you need to look to retool for the future with Girardi and possibly even Callahan.

Girardi to Colorado? What do they have to offer that makes it a pertinent trade for both teams? They want to make the playoffs. They want grit. They want experience. Girardi kills 3 birds with 1 stone for them. We need something relevant back. Besides MacKinnon who will be untouchable, do they have anything that makes sense for us? Loosely looking at their farm, I would think not.

Girardi + Rangers 2014 2nd
for
Siemens + Avs 2014 1st

Yeah I was being sarcastic because certain people think a player sucks because he's on a bad team

Guilty as charged. It's absolutely a risk with ROR too. I'm just saying that could be a trade that would make sense for both teams.

Um no the Avs get wrecked in that deal. He also can't be traded til Feb 28

Don't think they get wrecked. The Feb 28 part makes the point moot anyway. But purely from a 1 for 1 deal - how can you put a price on veteran leadership and what it brings to the team? Colorado lacks exactly that.

Girardi isn't just a leader, he can still be a top pairing defender who can log 25 + min effectively.

For a 2nd line center? Seems fair.

Here's my pipedream Bernie style attempt at what I would do. This is mostly boredom, and far from perfect.

1. Girardi, Hagelin for ROR (Doubt the Avs would entertain moving O'Reilly. Hate losing Hags. But Rangers need a C badly).
2. Same deal but broken down: Brassard for McGinn. Again Avs may not bite. Don't really need Brassard. It could be for a similar player to McGinn.
3. Del Zotto for Gudbranson. Would prefer a better prospect but not sure what MDZs value is. Allows Panthers to move Kulikov.

When healthy:
Kreider-Stepan-Nash: scoring line
McGinn-ROR-Callahan: Shut down line with some pop
Pouliot-Richards-MZA: Offensive zone start scoring line
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett: energy line

McD-Stralman
Staal-Gudbranson
Moore-Falk

Team will go through more growing pains. Miller in for Richards, Mac in for Falk next year. Room to sign a FA if a good target emerges. Flame away.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

congrats on post total!

Not big on ROR.

I think the last prop I made truly nailed it.
You guys are just contrarian about it 'cause it involves moving Stepan, and because you are overly concerned about the C being thin.

Even if those concerns were true to the degree you guys allege --- and you are wrong IMO about being so damaging to such degree --- you completely ignore all the good aspects of those 2 deals.

Or Colorado can realize that tinkering with an already good team to address a perceived need often blows up.

See: New York Rangers, summer of 2012.

Can a trade happen already? I'm addicted to the refresh button lately. I just want one or two more offensive threats on this team even if it means trading the 1st round pick along with MDZ. If not two offensive threats then an offensive threat plus a Prust like player minus the injuries that happened this year.
