Could the Canadiens be tempted to intervene in this matter to promote Demidov's learning and progression during his final year of contract in Russia? Negotiating so that his pact in Russia is broken is one of the possibilities open to general manager Kent Hughes." - TVA Sports

would this not be like a big trade for the habs
You'd have to call CKA spitefully stupid if they aren't going to use Demidov but won't take some sort of deal for him.
The Michkov file changed everything IMO. Calling it compassionate doesn't alter that fact.

Hughes alluded to as much. Basically said they’d be watching how Demigod is being developed and taking it from there.

I suspect that if he’s not given a spot on SKA, which is possible given Kuznetsov signing and sheer number of vets they have/Rotenberg’s affinity to playing vets, that it’s a possibility Habs step in and buyout his contract. Not sure what the mechanisms are or how it would work but could see them doing it if they could and if it was best option. Molson and Habs not short of cash and $1M wouldn’t be a thing to bring him over if they had to.

I don’t buy it. Tulsky is trying to drive his price up. His availability and opportunity demands are the worst kept secret in the NHL. Now that the team struck out in free agency, they pivot back to him as Plan C, D? Can’t see Necas liking that
My guts feeling is that Caroline is going to let Necas get his arbitration contract and then deal him at the deadline in a player trade instead of picks/prospects.

I am not sure why everyone on this board seem to want to get rid of vets and or seem to think we will regress this year. There is one thing that has slowed down the progression of this team in the past two seasons.. injury. Last year we got half a season of Newhook, we started the season without Dvorak and lost Dach for the entire season. We had the real Slafkowski for half a season as well. I am hoping that this year Dach, Ghule, Newhook, Xhekaj, all stay healthy. This is what this team needs to progress. I would bet that with a healthy team we might have both Roy and Hutson in the race to win the calder.

I know it shouldn't matter, but Marner has irritating fashion sense. He looks ridiculous.

Also he's less good than his salary.

Maybe Struble for Marner at 50% retention.

To NYI
She's Theodore, Josh Anderson

To Vegas
Nelson, Barron, Wahlstrom, Pens 2nd

To Mtl
Nick Roy, Pageau

Islanders roll dice on being able to extend Theodore. He complements their top 4 perfectly. Lou likes his beefy, fast skating players, swapping Pageau for Anderson fits even at the extra year.

Vegas swaps UFA-to-be D for C, add 2 younger cheaper projects & a solid pick while shaving some cap cost setting them up depth & trade asset-wise for making a push this year.

Habs add Roy, a perfect fit for our middle 6 for next few years. Pageau is more useful than Anderson and shaves off a year, setting us up well both short & longer term.

To WPG
K.Johnson, Dvorak

To CBJ
McGroarty, Strubble, Dobes, Bauer, 2*3rd (NJ via Mtl/WPG)

To Mtl
Laine

Jets get out of McG situation best way possible... Upgrading fwd prospect with a guy who can contribute now & has higher ceiling. Address C depth by adding vet middle 6 C in the process.

CBJ downgrades a bit on McG:Johnson but still get a very good young fwd with big potential. Add a needed G prospect & one with Ohio "roots" to boot. Grab two physical young D's & draft capital (despite being a lottery team, theyve got minimal picks in '25).

Habs give up quantity (from areas of depth) for roll of the dice on great quality. Move on from Dvorak in the process.

Sign Tinordi 1yr 1M
7th dman who can alleviate pressure on X/Pez getting spot duty against certain teams.

Sign best AHL starter they can to replace Dobes.
-------------

CC Suzuki Slaf
Newhook Dach Laine
Roy Pageau Roy
Armia Evans Gally
Pez

Matheson Guhle
Xhekaj Savard
? Harris ?
Tinordi

Monty
Primeau

Roster makes playoffs comfortably if remotely healthy. Wins a round or 2 if D & G holds up.

(? Hutson, RB, Mailloux battle it out in camp for opening day spot... If an RD wins, Harris moves back to LD, )
