HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #80

How about a deal with Buffalo for one of their excess defensemen?

Casey Fitzgerald is a scrappy right hand shot defenseman that probably gets caught in the numbers game in Buffalo. He’s on a cheap contract and could add some sand paper to the back end. Even better if the Habs could clear some cap back the other way.

Paul Byron straight up for Fitzgerald? It’s can’t lose really for both the Sabres and Habs. If Byron’s out, his contract is covered by insurance, and if he’s healthy enough to play, he can be dealt at the deadline for an asset by the Sabres….Meanwhile the Habs get a serviceable Dman and shed some more salary to sign Dach.

Agreed
Fast , young, big
Needs some proper development, and teach him how to take faceoffs better, way better

Dach is already good enough to be considered a 3rd C of the future. The trade would never be a complete flop.

He needs to learn how to use his size too gain access to the O-zone rather than try to go around opposing Ds continually. he also needs to work on his shot and make a conscientious effort to use it more in order not to be a predictable one-trick pony.

Face-offs? He really needs to improve in that department because, so far, he hasn't completely wowed everyone with his other skills to make that less of a concern.

If Montreal manages to pick up Fantilli or Dvorsky at the 2023 draft, each will end up being a big-bodied, shutdown 3rd line C with offensive upside who could potentially step up to the 2nd line in case of injuries.

Allen has to worth something.
But habs need him as well, for now
Allen is necessary to start the year. He's gone at the deadline, or before, depending on Price's health.

Montreal will likely place Byron on the LTIR to start the year and might start with a smaller lineup than the 23-player, maximum roster size.

I suspect 7 D and 12 forwards, plus two Gs.

...trading for Dubois makes no sense for Montreal atm...we are in no way, shape, or form ready to start trading away futures for "The Now"; that was one of Bargain Bin's biggest failings...if he wants to come "home" on a good contract in two years, fine...
LOL at Dubois age 24 being considered too old for the rebuild. Suzuki is only one year younger and taking up so much cap space - get rid of him!!

If that was the potential of Fantili and Dvorsky… they wouldn’t be in the discussion for top 5… everybody citing 2003 draft and all… maybe not right off the start at D+1 but we gotta be talking about #1 center potential there, to push Suzuki down at #1B spot. Then we can think about becoming real contender.

Carolina took on Deangelo. Not all markets are as media centric as Montreal
DeAngelo was a proven 50 pts producer

Mailloux have played something like 15-20 games in the past 2 years. The problem with Mailloux is not only the legal affaire, but the game he lost in his development

Well that isn't reality but actually conjecture on your part.

We have no clue who would be inquiring nor what they would be willing to part with.

We do have a clue... look at the moves made this summer so far.

Teams don’t want to lose their cap space for player with terms like armia/hoffman. And if Armia/Hoffman would be UFA this summer. Not sure they would find a team/or . Their salary (aav) would be lower.

No doubt about it. Those players don't suck but cap space is a major issue right now and the teams that have it, are not going to play nice even if they value Armia and Hoffman to some degree.

What???

We're holding onto our lottery protected pick and not trading it for top 6 players in order to save it for the next Danault (plus 10% chance at Bedard)???

If the 2023 draft is as strong as people are saying, there better be more 70 point Cs there.

hoping some of our rentals have great seasons so we can move them for 1sts or 2nds ( then move up ) this draft keeps looking better every day

put Dadonov with Suzuki with PP1 on a contract year im sure he will play hes ass off

hopefully Drouin and Byron can stay healthy and have a descent season also
Please no more players on a descent. It's enough we have Gallagher, Hoffman and Savard.

Have you seen him play during that shortened sample? The kid has a lot of offensive potential. That may or may not translate to the NHL but he’s big, skates well around people and has a great shot. Teams will trade for the potential he has even with the baggage. That being said, better to keep him around and translate that potential to the AHL first and see what’s up.

last year of Allen’s contract. He’s more than likely going to get traded at one point during this season to make sure we get something for him.

Price is the wild card. We need to keep Allen and Monty until we know Price's faith this season. Allen has value no doubt about it

I doubt we will get another 1st this time around but you never know. I would expect 2nd rounders and B prospects for guys like Dadonov, Drouin, Byron. Allen might get a late 1st. Hard to say.

I can't believe that we still have posters pretending acquiring 24-year olds is a win now move. Unbelievable.

Flawed context.

Dubois is not just for the now. It's for the now and future. You're smarter than that so avoid exaggeration to prove your point

Trading futures? That has to be quantified. We are not trading Grade A assets like Guhle. If it's a Trouba price (20th and Pionk), I'm doing it.

The good news here is Dubois can't be extended until Jan now with his 1 year deal in place. Both the Habs and Jets can gather way more information from now till then. Jets can evaluate a prospect like Kidney and Habs can look at where the Panthers pick is tracking.

We are interested in Dubois, not desperate. If the cost is something we can afford and the salary in matches salary out, we would be dumb to not engage. Chances the Panthers pick and Kidney are better than Dubois is slim.

It's a win now and win in the future

It's win now cuz it pushed the habs forward when the main goal should be to secure Bedard, mychkov or fantilli.

Short term pain for long term gains. I see nothing wrong with that approach.

Then who knows maybe we can compete after the 2023 draft or need just one more top 5 pick to get the ball rolling, which coincides well with Dubois and his Ufa status

Anybody who thinks a team should avoid acquiring a young, bonafide top-6 center who wants to play for your team to minimally increase your minimal chances at getting Bedard or whoever should not be taken seriously when talking about how hockey teams should be built.

So why not get him for free in 2 years ? Why waste big assets for him when he's hellbent to come here. Why would we ever wanna waste assets when we won't compete anyways.

As long as it doesn't involve Slaf, Cole, Suzuki, Guhle or our 2023 1st, you do it,
otherwise...

I've gotten into this a million times in different threads and don't have the energy to do this but 'Just get him for free in two years' isn't as clever as everyone thinks it is the moment we start talking like we're in the real world and not just working out a hypothetical on a sheet of paper.
