Selling on Lundell now would be ultimate sell-low moment though...and it would disrupt the current roster dynamic too much.

If we're adding a piece, can't be taking away from current roster that's currently tops in the league right now.
Completely agree. The only issue with Lundell is his offensive output. And that can be helped with an actually offensively competent RW.

Him and Luostarinen are absolutely fantastic at locking up the neutral zone. Lundell should not be reduced to his lacking offensive output, even though it is so painful to witness

Who would be your favourite? Pacioretty and Kapanen bring the most scoring ability, with Duke and Olofsson.

I always liked Armia, his style works in the POs and regular season. Stay away from Duke.

If we could get Pacioretty to play with Lundell and Luostarinen, that would be great - Pac can also move up to the 1st or 2nd if necessary.

Or Kapanen.
I guess you talked me into Pacioretty, Lundell needs a sniper to set up. I think he's only played like 8 games this season though. I need to see he's healthy first. Kapanen also a good choice, he might just need a change of scenery. I could see him developing chemistry with the two other Finns and that line clicking.

I really like Zetterlund as well. He has some really nice hands. I like Armia, but idk if there's enough offense there for the 3rd line. Plus Habs would have to retain on next year for him as well, might drive up the price. If we acquired him, we'd really have to double down on being forecheck beasts, wearing teams down, playing tight D. I know Maurice likes him though, he kept saying a year ago that the Staal-Armia line changed the series against the Jets in 2021.

No chance Zito moves Lundell at this stage.

Prices for rentals are getting really high. I expect Zito to look at a guy or two with term that could help the team not just this year but next as well.

But I don't see him paying a 1st rounder to upgrade the 3rd line center role. That said, some quality depth is needed.

The more I think about bringing back Duke the less I hate it. I agree he's not a 'playoff' type player, but I think we have that in spades right now and he checks a lot of other boxes for me.

He wouldn't cost a lot of assets, he can score, and he'd fit in seamlessly without disrupting any team chemistry. There would be no need to really get him up to speed and he'd probably be pumped along with the guys on the team. We'd basically be icing the same playoff team as last year, with more experience, a better defense and 4th line. We've got enough grit, sand paper and defensive type guys, we need more scoring.

Out of all the options available, this makes the most sense to me.
-Henrique, Tarasenko, Guentzel etc. would all cost too much in assets
-Kane, Pacioretty, who knows what their health is like.
-Dowd type guys, isn't what we need
-Kaako, Kaliyev type projects, do that in the offseason
-Kapanen, Olofsson, Armia, etc. don't really bring anything that different from Duke, but would need to be integrated.

If we're going to be checking out the bargain bin, I'd take a flyer on Silfverberg (maybe Beauvillier) for a third line spot. To improve on the 4th I'd get Aube-Kubel or Sherwood (if Nash start selling).

If we are willing to spend I'd go for Eberle, I thought he played really well last year in the playoffs.

Adding Erod+Stenlund help a lot upfront. Also our D is the big improvement: Mikkola has been a life saver

We can't trade for Duclair this season. The NHL rules won't allow it. Henrique would be a fantastic addition but i don't think we're gonna win that race.

We should bring in Phil f***ing Kessel ASAP. We don't have a lot of assets so why not sign a UFA veteran scorer with multiple Cups. There's no risk involved. Worth a shot.

There was no salary retention in the trade so don't see why we can't trade for Duke?

I’d love it if we could add Henrique. Yeah that destroyed all of us in 2012, I was in the building, but that was over a decade ago and outside of scoring the goal he didn’t do anything outright bad to us. He still produces at a great clip and proved he can play in the playoffs yet has only been twice. He’d provide incredible depth but i don’t see how we could afford him as we don’t have the assets. If the ducks retain half he’d cost even more assets, like a 1st, which we don’t have for like 3yrs. Unless we trad knight or Lundell, but I wouldn’t want to trade major assets for a rental, which I assume he’d be since we have too many other players to re-sign and he’ll still command a half decent salary with the way he’s still producing. Unless they move on from knight and the money evens out that way. I wonder what he’s looking for on an extension. Either way, would love to add him if they could pull it off.

Kane would be the ideal choice but way too many other teams could outbid us. I don’t see how it could realistically happen. It was different when he was a ufa. If the red wings decide to move on (or if Kane requests a trade depending on how the season progresses) then I’m sure there will be a line of contenders willing to go all in on him

Patches has 1 goal in like 12 games after being out for essentially 2yrs. I’m curious how he’ll look once he gets his legs under him. Could get up to speed and hit his stride come playoff time. Guy has always been a natural goal scorer. Curious what the price on him would be

Kessel makes Duclair look like a selke candidate.

He's 35 years old coming off a 36 point season as an offense only player. I don't think his game is suited for a bottom 6 role either. So either he's stapled with Barkov, disrupting our best line (when was the last time Kessel even faced 1st line comp?)Or he's put with Lundell and Luo who are essentially a grinder line that are solid defensively and at maintaining possession, but are blackholes offensively.

That said... not opposed to it since as you said, nothing to lose. But my expectations would be on the ground. On paper he doesn't really seem to fit with any line except maybe Reinhart - Barkov - Kessel who are all smart, cerebral players with well rounded offensive abilities (though Kessel is more a playmaker these days)

At this point Kessel is a 4th line pp specialist. He'd disrupt our 4th line too much and I don't think he can keep up with 3rd line duties anymore. I wouldn't him playing the occasional game on the 4th line, but he can't be the main move.
