My crystal ball has given me the answer to what the winning team in the Beck sweepstakes will pay.

the answer: Whatever this year's market determines he is worth.

There are a lot of teams that he would help and be a definite asset. some are so far out of the championnship picture it is not worth talking about. Some are already strong up the middle, and some do not have the assets to pay for him.

I still think the main buyers interested are Sag and Sud, but there are dark horses that might think they have a shot. Or the price offered could be unsatisfactory to the Petes adn they decide to just trad Mayer and keep beck.

This is the OHL anything could happen. The only thing guaranteed is that no matter where he plays, it will be a contending team. Sorry Niagara, Barrie, Windsor Sarnia, and Flint.

Kingston, Oshawa North Bay, and Ottawa, I think, are out of the picture.

I would include Erie and OS but teams do funny things in the west
and here I thought Niagara was the front runner in the Beck sweepstakes..

Beck will likely decide which team fits best. He has been moved a couple of times so I think it will have to suit him first. What the heck do I know. We all get a few surprise jolts when the trades start coming out.

What are the thoughts of Ben Gaudreau in the goalie mix, would he be the answer to their goalie wows

Not much talk on here about Mississauga but any thoughts on they might make some adds to get them near the top? Weak east, they have a good team ( but young), they have assets. Yes they will be better next year but a couple of adds might put them in the Memorial Cup this year and still have a shot again next year? Thoughts?

Raftis ready to make moves - Soo Greyhounds

It really sounds like Raftis is describing Beck when he talks about adding players who can place with pace and are strong in the defensive end of the rink. It doesn’t hurt that Beck is playing with Allard…..almost like an audition to see if Beck is a good fit. So far so good I’d say.
Or he could be just talking trying to raise the price for any Beck suitors.

I know many have said that Beck is not a fit for Saginaw with our depth at Center but as Kingpin (I believe) said, we can move Haight to wing pretty easily. Beck's experience in the Memorial Cup is worth the extra we would need to spend and his complete game is something we desperately need to add.

I can also see an OA swap with Barrie for Punnett. Adding another forward is going to push Loukus down to the 3rd line (which is way too low for an OA in a go-for-it year) and a return to Saginaw for Punnett would give Saginaw that big Top 4 defenseman that I think they need. Since they'll likely have to trade Young, they'll recall Cloutier for any depth.

Those two trades would give the Spirit three fantastic lines and the 4th line would have guys like Moore and Sima who can be wrecking balls in the playoffs. The defense would have tough guys like Hache and Punnett and scorers like Parekh and Dionocio. I'll take that lineup up against anyone in the league.

That’s a really tough question to answer. So many returning players next year. So many 2025 2nds and draft picks overall.

I can’t say what Richmond will do but I know what I would do. If the market shapes up as a sellers market, I would shy away from wasting assets on this season. If he can find some reasonable adds at a decent price then great.

They have an open OA spot and can also upgrade on Boudreau if the OA prices are cheap. They also have an open Import spot available. IF the cost to acquire an Import that may make a difference is cheap then that may be a good spot to look as well.

I don’t think Missy needs to look outside those spots to make improvements. Any moves they make this year should reflect positively on next year. They look to return Vaccia and Leskovar as OA’s next year. They have a spot open there as well. If they add a ‘04, they likely look to add one that will 100% return as an OA next year.

They can make a few deals that won’t affect next year negatively while also helping this year. Adding a ‘04 that returns next year as an OA, filling the open OA spot and maybe the Import spot would be a good way to do it. Whether they go as far as upgrading Boudreau? I dunno about that one.

Saginaw is in a different situation than the other teams. They also look really good next year. There may be one eye kept on focus toward next year.

I think Plan A needs to be pushing this year but if the prices are silly high because too many teams feel they are in it and there are a lack of players available, it may be better for Saginaw to accept their free ride into the Memorial Cup and tinker a bit this year. Saginaw has a very strong team. The problem is they need to at least make the Conference Final. That may be tough if Kitchener nails down the #1 seed and Saginaw has to play the Sault In round 2.

I think if you could turn Loukus into Punnett then that would be a good start for sure. That would be a super savvy move.

I am on the side of not investing in Beck. I think rounding out your roster is a better option. But, that really depends on who is available. IF the market is really thin on impact players, you may not have a choice but to go after one or two of the very small handful of players out there.

This is what I was wondering. They could and I think they will make moves that will improve them this year but won't impact a stronger position next year. They are a bit early but we have seen teams double dip successfully before and I think they are in a spot to do this starting this year. I think they will be definitely in the mix coming out of the trade deadline.

I can virtually guarantee that the message from Garber/Goslin to Dave Drinkell is to go for broke this year. Drinkell may be thinking a little about next season but the message to him has to be "do whatever it takes" to win a title this year and have a squad that is capable of winning the Memorial Cup. We had Misa dropped in our lap with the lottery and there's no telling when we're going to be in this position again since, while we've improved our image in the league, we're still not a desired destination like a lot of cities. So, this is go for broke and we'll trade our good players in the future if we need to restock the cupboard.

If they deal Loukus, they have to bring two forwards in. One for 2nd line and one for 3rd. Otherwise our 3rd and 4th lines are useless. Two line teams don’t win titles.

Maybe use a 5-6 pick for depth or on an OA, that is a very Richmond thing to do. I would not expect more unless a perfect offer for one of their goalies is made.

There are not many overages available at this point of season that a team can get for a 5th or 6th. The only chance of getting one for that price is a team has three overages and adds another and does not move one of their current overagers in the deal and as a result have to trade an excess overage to get back down to three.

I was thinking it would be one considered for waivers after OA trades are done, like Gauvreau; or, depth ‘04s.
I don’t think the Steelheads would be in the market for the more costly players such as; Punnet, Frasca, Šalé of Barrie for example.
That is unless the ideal trade for one of their goalies is possible.

I do not think Cam Gauvreau is going anywhere. The Petes are likely not adding another overage other than maybe one to replace Sam Mayer if he is traded so he will not be put on waivers.

‘like Gauvreau’ not necessarily Gauvreau. When the OA carousel ends, there could very well be teams with less than three OAs.
