Trade Deadline 23/24

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Mark Hunter is taking down a few old opposing GM skins off his barn door to make room for a couple of new ones at the deadline. Is it him that host that new tv game show Snake Oil? :naughty:

I’m thinking that if London cannot reasonably buy, they may reasonably sell. I am not too sure London will stay status quo. I also can’t see them tossing around assets after trying to acquire young guys recently.

The Hunters are owners so they likely want the play off revenue for sure. They will look at their team and evaluate whether to sell and get a bit younger or fill in a hole or two and make a bit of a run. They don't seem like a real contender this season with their squad but you can never count them out.

As a Knights 25+ year STH I can tell you the Knights are legit contenders this year and way better than their record suggests. I think they will blow past teams in the second half of the season.

As discussed on the Knights board, they need to add a top 9 centre. Whether it’s a big splash for a top line guy or a value add is the question.

I would expect some young good players will move to recoup some picks. London has a ton of depth 05/06 kids that should make any OHL roster.

It is that depth of 05-06 class that makes them more of a seller, no? It is not like their 03-04 classes are standout. It is that makeup that makes me think they could reposition as a seller. Their 03-04 class is jsut good enough to get some decent pieces to add to next year’s team.

That is assuming the prices are high with very few teams selling anything of value. A team like London could make out like bandits and position next year to be something crazy good.

The issue with London is they have excellent 05/06s that will be here next year. They should go as deep as they can to provide experience, many of them have benefited from going to the final last year and have improved more than expected.

If they sold, and that would be unimaginable from my perspective, they would sell off assets at depth:

Fwds:
McCue(OA)/Julien/Sim/Gazizov(Imp)

Defence:
George/Edward

Goal:
Simpson/Willmore

None of those players would be easily replaced this year internally, but none are needed or available next year except Julien. Most if not all would command a second round pick.

The real problem is next year they are real contenders already on paper and will not have space for any acquisitions from this year. It already a logjam.

If that is true and there is already a logjam for next year, then they won’t need to make any acquisitions next year. They will already be a Championship contender. Again, if that is true then they can empty their cabinet this year because they won’t need any picks going into next season.

That is not untrue. But London doesn’t need to empty the cupboards if they can use their spare 3rds/4ths/5ths.

According to Gene Pereira (Colts colour commentator) Anson Thornton is expected to be returned to Barrie next week. I would think with the position that Barrie is in they would deal him before the TDL. Who do you think would be interested in his services?

Wonder if the players like Beck and maybe Smith if traded would prefer Saggy as their destination as they are hosting the Mem Cup this season?
That's a valid question. A good way to cement the legacy of a great Junior career.
Although Beck has played in the Memorial Cup and two world juniors already so maybe not so much for him...

Nothing like padding a resume. A Mem Cup ring is probably something any CHL vet would love to own. One of the most elusive championships to win.

Between the deadline and the offseason who will be the first 08 traded (excluding Brzustewicz)? Young seems like high chance, maybe griffin?

HF92 , Beck may never win a cup with the Habs but has the opportunity to win the Mem Cup with Saggy. They have their sites set on him for sure. You'll be cheering for him after the Soo gets beat out in the play offs. :naughty:
Haha I bet Saginaw adds 2 guys from Brantford and one is at WJC, Jorian Donovan

Bobber, it’s the rangers that are in on Beck I think haha don’t jinx YOUR chances !!! Hahaha

Brantford is a solid team. If they add they will be a dangerous team to contend with for the opposition. Great franchise that does thing right. Rangers really don't have the assets to compete for Beck. They are rebuilding this year. What you see if a mirage.

And if Beck thinks that he’s “been there done that” as far as the Memorial Cup goes, maybe he won’t want to be dealt anywhere. Maybe he’d just as soon see his OHL season over sooner than later so he can get up to the pros to finish the season.

A trade to Saginaw would tie him up in this league until mid May, meaning no pro play until next year, even if Saginaw were eliminated early in a tough west conference.

He wouldn’t be the first OHLer to not lose a ton of sleep having their OHL season end knowing they’re moving right up to the pros to play regular minutes.

Not saying that this is Beck’s mindset. But you never know.
