GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Well good news is Buffalo has gotten worse in our division. But bad news is Wash has gotten more dangerous in the conference. Bet they sign Carlson too (if they have cap for it).

If Hellebyuk goes to Fla, it will be laughable. Just hand the cup to Fla at that point. Then replay on loop Marchand saying low tax states have a distinct advantage and they wouldve lost two players last year without the advantage.
Who exactly is Florida going to trade for Hellebuyck? They have nothing left to give. Plus, Chevy is the most cautious GM in the league. I can't imagine he moves with any speed when it comes to Helle.

like others have said, I'm fine with Tuch going elsewhere. We avoid that anchor of a contract in 3+ years, and yes it sucks not to add him now, but we have more cap for further moves.

Carlson already stated he wasn’t going back. Things could change, but….

I hate when people say this tbh. You still have to play the games. Nothing is awarded in July/August.

If a team with Selanne, Kariya, Sakic, Tanguay, Forsberg, Blake, Foote, and Hejduk can't win a cup then its never a guarantee

Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy in sport to win for a reason

Yea that was pre cap years. Big difference.

Washington is my "way too early" favourite to be a contender next year. All they need is an upgrade on defense, maybe 2. They are very skilled and deep.

The Hidden Advantage NHL Teams Don't Want to Talk About

TSN and BarDown

June 24, 2026

Why do NHL players keep signing with teams in Florida, Texas, Nevada, and Tennessee?

Many fans point to one key factor: no state income tax.

But how much does it actually matter?

In this video, we break down the real impact of state taxes on NHL players, including how jock taxes work, why a $10 million contract isn't always worth the same amount in every market, and whether no or low-tax teams truly have a competitive advantage in free agency.

We'll explore the economics behind player decisions, the arguments from both sides of the debate, and why the issue continues to spark controversy across the league.

Also add that it was Tampa, Vegas... who were also taking advantage of LTIR before the league stopped that and made teams playoff rosters have to be under the cap too. Thats two advantages! No wonder low tax states have been in every final but one since 2017.

I don't know. 2OV, 9OV and Will Smith is getting pretty close to fair value for Matthews. You get a young 1C potential in Will Smith who is Right handed and only 21 plus you would draft Mckenna and could move down with 2OV to aquire more assets. 9OV you take best dman available. also get 13 million more to spend via free agency this year to build around these young players
Smith isn’t a center though , nor will he be ..

Wonder if Wilson moves?

That's 10.5M for Tuch, 8.125M for Kyrou and Ryan Leonard is their best young guy also a RW.

Wilson at 6.5M seems redundant.
