GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
If we’re retaining on Rielly to just get a mid round pick I’m not opposed to just keeping him. But it sounds like we don’t him back no matter what.

And for bob I wouldnt go more than 2 years. 4 years is too much.
4 year is perfect. Stretches out the cap hit, and you can trade him to a cap floor team in years 3 or 4.

If Chayka galaxy brains this team by trading it's best and most valuable players for a bunch of lottery tickets and analytics darlings, I'm going to be pissed. You don't have to trade assets just because they're valuable and can command a return.

A cost controlled asset the likes of Knies HAS to return an NHL ready top pairing defenseman in his prime (or entering his prime) or a top 6 centerman with similar attributes... Outside of that, the return would have to be an overwhelming package of assets that are too good to turn down. If it's a marginal trade I'm going to be annoyed.

Nylander did not get Tre a top pairing dman. Neither will Knies but you could get a potential one with a top 5 pick in this year's draft and if they add another top prospect or two, how do you turn that down?

Interesting, I believe it was Bourne who said he would rather keep Cowan over Knies. Cowan is the same guy the Bruins chose Minten over in the Carlo deal.

If the pick busts, you're out a prime aged top line power forward, just not the right move to make.

I’d go 3 years x $8.5M for Bob
He really wasn't very good last year and most times a player who is bad at 37 is worse at 38 if they are even still in the league. He was healthy last season and still as bad is the injured Stolarz. I would much sooner spend that money on Jenner and look at a cheaper vet as a #3 if the need arose. Carolina won a Cup with Freddie and Bussi. Past glory counts for little.

Yeah hard to deal Knies but the Leafs still entertaining a trade, is somewhat concerning to me. At the end of the day no risk, no reward.

Ried, Carels and Smits are most likely NHL ready.

They're 100% getting a starter this offseason. And I'm fine if it's Bob contract depending

With our luck the 38 year old guy will blow out his groin in the first week and never be the same. Just a giant leap of faith here that I don't think they need to take. I get that he's been incredibly durable for a long long time, and he's been good for a long time, but goaltenders are finicky and at that age players can turn on a dime.

Being scared or not believing in Hildeby is really weird. But hey we'll see. Maybe he'd win the Vezina next year for all I know.

From that to the Knies rumours, I'm starting to get very nervous about the Chaykin plan here. It started off decently well.

Maybe we should just take Carels instead of McKenna?

You can never find a top pair D or trade a winger for one apparently so let's just draft one.
