GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

I hated the Chayka hiring. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at his moves to date, keeping an open mind and so far so good. A Knies deal will be career defining for him here, he better get it right or we will run him out of town when the dust settles. Has to be an overpay or I don’t chance it.

Power + Helenius + 4 OA would be highway robbery on our part.
Something like that would be a no brainer for me. I really hope Chayka works some magic here… make our division rivals pay.
I’d be ok adding Carlo and 2nd rounder/Avs 1st for that package.

Power-Raddysh is a quality top pairing.
Young middle 6C (RH)
4th overall for Bjork or best D avail

I understand dealing Knies, I absolutely do not understand dealing him for 4OA

We're apparently trying to win now, how do you win now trading for a pick that won't be at Knies level minimum for at least 2-3 years
If you are dealing Knies for 4th OA then deal Matthews and Nylander as well.

Id happily rebuild, but the Woll deal + Raddysh signing of course means we arent doing that this year.

Taking 4th OA and subtracting from our roster for a year or two before one of the big 3 D make the team is a super risky and hard to stomach move

I have a theory that Sundin wants Bjork. I think that would be the move

Let's say things got crazy and we ended up with the 4OA pick, and let's say it was non negotiable we had to get Viggo Bjorck. I would probably look to trade down with Calgary at 6OA and try to get the 36OA and 51OA pick back, while giving them our 60OA or 69OA back to balance it all out.

tough to imagine they move on from both Power and Byram in the same offseason (hell, within the sa e 24 hours)

Quinn + 4th is interesting though.

the other issue is how is the relationship with the player is impacted by all the rumours, this is now 2 different management groups who are seriously considering moving him and all he's wanted to do is stay

We're pushing ourselves into a corner where we'll have to deal him

Part of me wonders if his agent hasn’t intimated he might want a move. It’s a strange turn of events, he’s signed long term, he’s entering his prime, we’re clearly still in win now, so why is a premier power forward stud on the block?

I do wonder if we can finesse out 2OA + 9OA from SJ for Rielly + Knies

Use 9OA to grab Helly or another top player, draft Stenberg with 2OA

I was just about to write that Eddie came when he had down years and 37/38 yrs old and ended up being great for us.
So why not Bob.
Am I missing something or did we trade away Woll because we would have lost a goalie on waivers this year? Why would we trade Woll just to put ourselves back in the same position for a player that his own team won't give any term and probably a lot higher AAV than Woll?

Kyper was just talking ****.
"All hes good for is 30 games". Everyone knew this.
"He wont finish his contract". Likely but an obvious guess.

Maybe it's us, Buffalo, AND San Jose.
Matthews, Knies, Rielly, picks, and a lot of things moving in every which direction

If anyone needs to talk to someone who knows nothing, I'll be at the bar for the next few days waiting for the dust to settle.

I see both sides to this debate just saying it's pretty clear most of the people who are okay with moving Knies are the more analytical fans.
I'm pretty balanced in that regard. I appreciate what he brings and certainly don't want to give him away. Aside from the numbers, have the injuries made him play less aggressively?

The idea, also, he might be stuck between generations as well. 5 or 6 years younger than Matthews/Nylander, 3-5 years older than Cowan, Danford, TLK, McKenna (presumably).

But also, you've got to give to get, and they're not doing much with this Dcore in particular, presently constructed.
