Am I missing something or did we trade away Woll because we would have lost a goalie on waivers this year? Why would we trade Woll just to put ourselves back in the same position for a player that his own team won't give any term and probably a lot higher AAV than Woll?

Let's say things got crazy and we ended up with the 4OA pick, and let's say it was non negotiable we had to get Viggo Bjorck. I would probably look to trade down with Calgary at 6OA and try to get the 36OA and 51OA pick back, while giving them our 60OA or 69OA back to balance it all out.

Just take the player.

I wouldn't trust them not to take Björk.

I am not sure what your definition vanilla is, but Maccelli has offensive flair to his game which I wouldn’t characterize as vanilla.

You would think that Chundin would have traded Stolly in the first place if they could of instead of Woll. I know I would have. Question is, how much would it have cost them to do it. I really don't think G is a team need. Hildebeast is pretty good and they also have Artie waiting in the wings too.

I just can’t see them going with Stolz and Hildebeast for a whole season. Stolz might be injured by Game 2.

Reading posts, many Buffalo fans arent high on Mrtka.

But St.Louis was ready to take Mrtka and a 1st for Parayko at last years deadline. So seems they like him enough to make him the big piece in return for Parayko.

Id happily rebuild, but the Woll deal + Raddysh signing of course means we arent doing that this year.

Taking 4th OA and subtracting from our roster for a year or two before one of the big 3 D make the team is a super risky and hard to stomach move

i don't think it is.
I think the goal should be building up our programme. like I would HOPE when we are poised to strike again , we'd still be trying to get great prospects/picks etc to refill the cupboards and develop. and the best way to develop is to not be mired in being poo poor in the botom of the standings losing, but trying to challenge to get the bit before we take off with it. (tha's the ONE thing I agreeed with Shanahan with 12+ years ago).

now don't get me wrong. if someone gave us the moon for Matthews i'd help him back up his bags. I am not married to this guy and I don't trust that he's married to us. NO discounts, no long term committments. nada, zilch and the great US exodus isn't; really sitting well with me either. the same goes with Nylander.

but if they stay. i don't think we should give up two years (or whatever) trying to chase a brass ring that we can't really reach yet. the goal should be just about being better for two years because of matthews. the goal should be being better for the next decade beacuse of

1: Mckenna [hopefully, potentially] and 2: for the organization. end of story full stop.

Yeah, I don't.

6'6, right-handed, very good mobility for that size, should have the upside to get at least 40-50 points. I like him.

They are options, though.

I don't want to trade Knies but Buffalo has alot of nice pieces that would work. Then I remind myself that I'm a Leafs fan and all this talk of overpay will likely just end up being something underwhelming that we regret.
