Should have been done days ago. Let's start fresh with a new thread for the off-season!

EDIT: If you had previous convos going in the last thread, bring them in here. Apologies for disrupting.

Noting... this works on the cap.

McKenna Matthews Tuch
Knies Tavares Nylander
Cowan Jenner Bourque
Lorentz Quillan Haltunnen
Joshua Groulx

McCabe Raddysh
Zellweger Tanev
OEL Carlo/Desharnais
Andrae Villeneuve

Of course, there are other options for 3C out there... the cap hits will be about the same. One too many bodies there, Domi on LTIR... not into LTIR... Plenty of options how to setup that fourth line.

What do we know about Tuch?
Do we think we are a legit option he would consider?

I mean we have an excellent top 6 even without him, and tons of cap so he doesn’t need to be the guy here.

I honestly haven't read much about smoke with him one way or another. All we know is that he's gonna get a lot. Apparently Seattle is ready to give him well over 10M cap hit.

What do you think about the Leafs using an RFA offer sheet?

I’d look at the $2.39M–$4.78M range, where the compensation would only be a 2027 2nd-round pick.

A few names I’d consider:

Simon Nemec: I know this is very unlikely and New Jersey probably matches, but I’d still try: 2 years × $4.775M.

Mackie Samoskevich:good speed, skill and top-9 upside. I’d offer around 2 years × $4.5M.

Mavrik Bourque : smart, skilled forward who could add more depth up front. I’d offer around 2 years × $4.25M.

Cole Perfetti: Ontario guy, creative and still young. Maybe unrealistic, but I’d be very interested at 2 years × $4.775M.

I know people are excited about Quillan and I like him too, but part of me feels like if you can, you’d be best to try to sign a veteran 4C you can rely on for shutdown minutes. I think that opens interesting opportunities to blend lines 2 and 3, and maybe split up Nylander and Tavares who defensively have not been great together.

Bourque and Samoskevich are plausible since Dallas and Florida are in TOUGH cap space wise. Seems like both could be strong possibilities. But it's possible those players don't sign offer sheets and they could in theory ask for more than the 4.7M limit of the 2nd round pick.

Zero chance the other 2 work.

I think we should use all tools at our disposal
According to the media everyone already hates our GM anyway, right? Lol

Tuch would be nice but it would be tying too much cap back into the wings. JT is aging and they need to ensure they can afford a replacement down the middle now or in the future.

Also he’s a 30 year old power forward .. how many quality years does he have left?

Also they’ll need to invest more on the back end as well. Raddysh is a good start but it’s not done yet.

The defense is coming together:

McCabe-Raddysh
OEL-Tanev
Andrae-Carlo

I fully expect 1 of those defensemen (Carlo) to still be moved and I’m bracing for 2 (McCabe or OEL) to be moved.

Does Knies return a current day top 4 defenseman instead of a futures package?

If the goal was to add 2 more puck movers they’re still 1 short considering they’re reportedly going to move off Rielly. That’s if we consider Andrae a puck mover.

Raddysh and Andrae is a good start in the defensive makeover.

I still want Rielly, Carlo and OEL moved as well. OEL's fine I would just rather move him while he has value, I expect a decline shortly. I'm willing to look past McCabes rough year as he's younger and brings some physicality.

He's a guy who grew up a Sabres fan, in Syracuse. He's going to get overpaid for what he brings to the table... I'd consider Raddysh a market contract... Tuch is asking for $10.5... which is more than you'd want to pay a 30 year old 60ish point forward. Being close to home, "might" have value.

But, after we took Raddysh off the board, he's the top point getting UFA left. He's got size, Right handedness, decent defensively, somewhat physical, but maybe not power forward type physical. He'll fight, but he's not good at it. He's got elite speed... which is something we are looking to add.

Given our needs, and him being the best available at that... screw it... pay the man, it's not like we can find a better option in free agency, and not a penny of it comes from my pocket.

There will be red flags with every player... he sucked in round 2 of the playoffs this year...

Again... best free agent available, so damn the rest of the challenges around it.. especially seeing as it looks like we will have a ton of cap room. Better yet... send Sabres a 4th.. or Robertson, or Maccelli.. and get the deal done now. Make a real statement...

I'd sniff around a discounted EP40 for a matchup #2 C...

Interesting, thanks.

It feels like we can have him and McMann cap wise if we wanted to. Not saying of course they’d sign here necessarily.

Interesting dilemna... EP40 or Tuch for about the same money? And what's the cost to obtain EP40?

The cost is intriguing on the basis that the Canucks might be willing to sell him just to cut costs

You might be able to include Carlo because they’re thinking RHD … and if you’re willing to take on EP’s full deal with no retention?

Maybe Carlo + Robertson + ?

If they trade DeBrusk and Boeser they may have interest in Robby as a cheap top 9 winger

I’ve been on and off this idea over the last couple months of taking about it, but I think if the price isn’t stupid, it’s a smart gamble.

I really would like to separate Nylander and Tavares, but I still want Tavares to have quality wings like a 2B line.
