GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
With our luck the 38 year old guy will blow out his groin in the first week and never be the same. Just a giant leap of faith here that I don't think they need to take. I get that he's been incredibly durable for a long long time, and he's been good for a long time, but goaltenders are finicky and at that age players can turn on a dime.

Being scared or not believing in Hildeby is really weird. But hey we'll see. Maybe he'd win the Vezina next year for all I know.

From that to the Knies rumours, I'm starting to get very nervous about the Chaykin plan here. It started off decently well.
Hopefully Chayka is just feeding the insiders and not serious about some of these guys that are rumored in trade talks.

YOUNG #1 D only
only Harley comes close to that, and would be a fine pickup and make a solid top pairing.

Werenski is too old, and likely goes back to being injury prone if we get him, and cannot even sign him to an extension for a year, so, flight risk

Helly is in his mid 30's with a big cap hit, and always folds under playoff pressure.
Yup, Werenski only has 2 years left on his deal and Americans apparently don’t like playing in Canada lately. Hard pass.

In fairness, we signed a 37 year old Belfour who was coming off a bad year and he then put up his best statistical season with us, and gave us a great 2-3 years between the pipes. I’m sure many of us would agree Belfour was the last outstanding goalie we have had. Bob could potentially do the same for us. It’s a gamble though. However just pointing out the age decline with goalies isn’t always something you can bank on with such conviction. Especially when Bob seems like a fitness freak.
I think 2-3 years with our fellow Russian netminder (Akhtyamov) being of almost identical stature and nationality, he could potentially learn and grow from one of the best while we try and squeeze another 2-3 competitive years out of a top tier tendy.
i pointed this out too
people were not bueno that we got him but he sure shut ppl up right quick

Seriously if Chayka is going after goalies right now especially old ones. FIRE HIS ASS ASAP. Just roll with Stolarz and let the Beast and AA play and be our future guys.

I was just about to write that Eddie came when he had down years and 37/38 yrs old and ended up being great for us.
So why not Bob.
