I’m not sure that the right plan is to take a relatively soft D-core and make them softer.

Our Defense is good... our GA is 9th in the league right now, at 2.64 GA/G... right where we ended last year. But, it's 9th... Not top 5, or excellent.. just good.
I don't think we need major changes, but I do think we should be looking to inject some size, and nastiness to the back end. Typically, Stanley Cup Finalists, have players that do play a physical game, and are among hit leaders... now that isn't to say that just having high hit counts matters, but it certainly is an important part of the game, particularly in the playoffs.
At this point, you have called players junk, without providing anything because, "I said so"... aren't you a stats guy or something?
Again, how would you improve the D, and it's physicality.

If Dallas continues to struggle go after Klingberg as a rental, he will be expensive though, and we would have zero space to extend him.

This might be nuts but what about Ben Chiarot?
He can play LD/RD, hes huge and provides the the D an aspect we are missing (a better Bogosian if you will). Hes the type of guy who excels in playoff style hockey... probably a good fit next to Mo.. and MTL will very likely be sellers.

I like it as well but think we could still use an upgrade over Dermott/Holl.
Sort of like when Tampa got Mcdonagh and truly elevated to the next level.

McDonagh gave them their 2nd veteran top pair caliber dman.
we have 3 of them.
the Bolts then let their 21/22 yr old kids Cernak and Sergachev play. they didn't trade for guys to keep them at the bottom of the lineup.

Someone with a little more speed would be ideal for Sandin. Maybe not as big as Bogosian, but a right hand with some speed and sandpaper. Don’t need to be great with the puck. As long as they can win a battle along the boards/in front and make a short pass to Sandin lol

What do you mean by 'and', 'and' or 'and/or'? Personally I would not expect both of them to be part of the top 4 next season, maybe one...
To start next season, my guess/hope is that they'll be (as a luxury) a really strong third pair that takes a lot of minutes & importance/pressure off of their top 4, where minutes are distributed much more evenly & there isn't really a definitive top-4.

we have 3 good veteran top-3 dmen. only one spot left in the top 4. not sure why we wouldn't leave that spot open for one of the kids next year. heck, I want to see what Lilly looks like in there right now.
well I mean that could be a possibility. Muzzin could end up being a 3rd pair d next year.

We already have 7 NHL defensemen who should be playing every night, and we have 2 solid NHL goalies (including one playing amazing), and yet somehow this page has been filled with people targeting defense and goalies...
How surreal would it feel to move Mrazek and sign Rask????
