Hes overall a worse player than, but that wasnt what I was debating. I said Holl doesnt excel at anything. Zadorov is terrible offensively but actually provides more ev defensive value than Holl according to JfreshHockeys player cards.

CJ repeats on Leafs Lunch what Mirtle said yesterday on moving a d man. He says it's really a numbers problem. Says the good part is Liljegren has really stepped up and might have have taken a top 6 spot, and Leafs want to open up a full time spot for him. Says if Sandin and Liljegren are going to play every day which looks to be the case, then one of Holl or Dermott have to sit. Leafs also want to have flexibility to do other things. Says Holl has more interest around the league then Dermott.

According to the player cards, Zadorov has posted better defensive results while getting easier usage, and unlike Holl, he is horrible offensively and on the PK, which is why he's marked as a considerably worse player overall. If you agree he's a worse player overall at almost double the cap hit, I'm not sure why you're suggesting his value to be higher.

Perfect. Sounds good.

I'm fine with moving Holl. None of the kids should be sitting not just because they are probably better but because their development is far to important to the team moving forward. If we really need a seventh D, the team can call up either Biega or Menell, who are both more than fine in that role.

Because Zadorov has a reputation of the big physical Dman, which puts GM's in a trance and that you could argue for him based on his EV defense.

Im not saying hes a more valuable player than Holl, but moreso that a 3rd for Zadorov isnt good value and I dont know if you could reasonably expect a gm to make that mistake with Holl.

Thats great news for the Leafs. Keep Dermott if Holl has more value.

We don't know on Menell, but Biega yeah. Forgotten man but honestly he was was a fine insurance policy to be the day 1 6-7 if the kids weren't ready.

Barometer on a Holl trade is Hallander and a 7th

What should we expect?

I am expecting back a 6th/7th level depth D making 1 million or less with a 3rd round pick.

Something like this would solve the cap issues for when Mikheyev comes back and allow the Leafs to carry 7 defenders and 13 forwards.

If you could argue for Zadorov based on his EV defense and assumed reputation, you could just as easily argue for Holl based on his ES offense and defense in tougher usage, his PK ability, the fact that he's a 6 foot 4 right handed shot, and the fact that he's almost half the cost.

You asked for precedent. You were given precedent. Now you're trying to dismiss precedent because you don't personally think they were good value deals. Which even if you actually had anything to support that, it ignores the fact that Holl is a better player on a better deal. There's no reason to think Holl couldn't return that.

I would trade Holl for a 2nd but not Engval
For Moore

Reason why I make that trade is because once Mikheyev comes back, he replaces Engvall on that line. Moore rotates on the 4th line with Simmonds/Ritchie. And if possible, use the 2nd + Ritchie to upgrade the defense.

2nd and Ritchie to Nashville for Myers

Regarding Holl, Kypreos said: but I did speak to another team today, and they said, "We're interested. We just don't have a D to give back."

Kypreos isn't very reliable but if that's true it sound like they might be looking for an alternative defenseman.

I definitely think a huge part of this though is their staff realizing Liljegren is now a regular in their top six & they want to keep opportunity open for him; they can't just rotate him in & out to keep other guys happy.

Mikheyev will be back too so there is that cap aspect, they'll trade or lose someone.

Holl has more value around the league so...let the bidding war begin.

The only issuse it that the Leafs are on the clock because they probably need to make a trade happen before Mikheyev comes back. They would probably get a better deal closer to the trade deadline.

Kypreos sounds so unintelligent when he speaks.

If the Leafs are trading Holl, it's likely for a lesser RHD (making 1 million or less) + an asset (prospect or pick).

Kypreos and Bourne are too dumb to realize that the D-man coming back would be an adequate NHLer that can sub in and out with Sandin/Liljegre/Dermott if needed while clearing 1 million off the cap to get Mikheyev back in while also recovering another asset.

It isn't rocket science. It's incredible that these people get paid to talk hockey.

That is true, they're not the only ones either. Only thing I got out of it was what he said he specifically heard from a team, the rest of whatever they said was pretty irrelevant.

Really frustrating if they are looking to move out Holl, when they got McCann in and lost him for nothing (well less than nothing, paid Hallander + pick) and now trying to move Holl?

Reminds me a bit of when Kulemin was signed to a big deal, then later had his contract terminated.

I'n a Dubas fan, but not a great move. Didn't feel like it was at the time, even less so now.
