Ritchie at this point is probably one of the best options available in terms of likely caphit and potential impact. That and/or trading Dermott for a similar calibre/upside forward.

It's easier to find a forward than a defenseman at this point, so I don't think Dermott is going anywhere.

I wouldn't have been in a position to have signed any of the guys that we did today. So it's really hard to answer.

But if you want to know, I would've signed Hamilton and I would've had the cap to easily accomplish that.

If you had the cap space to accomplish that then Pietrangelo wouldve been a Leaf instead.

Has this been posted yet?

• Dubas is walked away from Hyman without trading his rights to Ken Holland. The Oilers GM’s best offer was reportedly two draft picks, including one in the top five rounds.

Maple Leafs sign 'excited' Petr Mrazek, trio of value forwards in free agency

Looks like Holland upped his offer from the reported 6th round pick but Dubas still didn't go for it.

Not sure about that decision honestly.

5th plus 7th.
I'm not even upset, rather Edmonton not have cap space truthfully.

The Maple Leafs might not be done after low-risk deals with goalie Petr Mrazek and bargain forwards | The Star

The 29-year-old netminder has a .910 career save percentage, but it was .923 last year and .956 the year before with some very good defensive teams in Carolina.

Mrazek and Campbell are similar: battlers, rather than positionally proficient.

“We like his competitiveness. We like behind the scenes that everything else about him checks out,” said Dubas.

“He was very open about how he sees himself in that partnership with Jack. It’s not just about supporting each other, but pushing one another. That part of it was important to us as well.”

Getting a goalie early seemed important around the NHL on Wednesday, with many finding new homes: Frederik Andersen (Carolina), Philipp Grubauer (Seattle), Martin Jones (Philadelphia), Jonathan Bernier (New Jersey), Jaroslav Halák (Vancouver), James Reimer (San Jose) and Braden Holtby (Dallas).

Mrazek signed for $1.2 million less than Andersen earned last year with the Leafs. That gave Dubas a little bit to play with and Kampf seemed to be the biggest beneficiary, earning a two-year deal at $1.5 million per season.

Kampf can kill penalties, like Hyman, but isn’t a scorer. The four-year veteran had one goal in 56 games last season. He can also play centre and defend the other team’s best players, which may allow Alex Kerfoot to move to the wing on one of the top two lines.

“He’s a centre that’s able to really take on very difficult assignments, both in the penalty kill in terms of defensive-zone starts and drive play up the ice,” said Dubas. “We feel he has tremendous defensive value. Last year the puck didn’t go in for him, but he still had a very positive effect on the puck.”

The 25-year-old Bunting (two years, $950,000 per) is from Scarborough and appears to have taken less to join his hometown team that he might have earned elsewhere. He scored at an extraordinary rate in Arizona — 10 goals in 21 games — but has yet to be an everyday NHLer.

Ditto Gabriel (one year, $750,000), a physical winger whose progressive views on social media in support of LGBTQ+ communities haven’t gone unnoticed.

“I just really like everything that Kurtis is about,” said Dubas.

.................

Dubas said the team building isn’t over. More signings are possible. Trades, too. Some of the better remaining free agents might lower their asking prices.

“I just think we’ve got a great opportunity here for a forward that maybe doesn’t get what they want on the first go-round, that looks at our group and sees an opportunity — particularly a winger,” said Dubas.

“We’re going to continue to look at any avenues we have to improve the roster, so nothing is out of the realm of possibility here.”

Good thing Dubas moved on to Mrazek.

Mrazek is perfect in my opinion for what we're doing. Campbell deserves his shot that he has finally gotten. Getting out from under Jonathan Quick, and out playing Freddy by a large margin. Kuemper takes the lions share if we traded for him. Our set up now, keeps things highly competitive in the crease, at a reasonable price. Campbell deserves the chance to keep establishing himself. I like our new duo. I had no faith in Freddy the last couple seasons. Whoever wins the hot hand likely goes to a 46-36 split this season

Glad we didn't give Foligno what he got from Boston.

A lot of GMs shot themselves in the foot with some of the ridiculous contracts handed out today to depth players. Hopefully, we will benefit from that as the free agency period continues and teams get capped out.

This has to be Saad he is hinting at.

Still think Ritchie could be that guy as well. I wouldn't even bother looking at Tatar unless a lot of other options dry up, and I am ignoring a few guys that I am almost 100% sure are going to end up in NYI by the end of this.

I think the Leafs should bring back Galchenyuk again too, if he doesn't get a better shot elsewhere. He likes it here and we will still have some spots available for him to compete. Worst case, he is on the Marlies waiting for his shot once again and he gets to continue to work on his skating like he did last year. I am sure he gets an opportunity somewhere though.

I won't be surprised if Gally still gets a 1 year 1 mil deal from the Leafs
