I find this perplexing. Because the Avs paid so much. And I assume the Oilers would be swapping Koskinen (matches Kuemper's salary) since they have no cap space at the moment. I'm struggling to imagine what they could be offering that could've got them close.

I dont want Galchenyuk back at this point. We need a legit top 6 winger. Already signed a bunch of bottom 6 guys and Robertson is coming up. I dont see a spot for Galchenyuk.

Nick Ritchie is someone who has intrigued me ever since his buyout was announced. I would absolutely take him on a cheap deal. Other than that find a legit top 6 guy like Saad.

Edit: Not buyout, non-tendered

Comparing the Marner deal to aggregate Point deals makes my blood boil! Marner gets to go back for more too..fk off

There is no risk with bringing Galchenyuk back for cheap. Give him a shot with the many others we have.

I think his roll has been filled by Bunting/Robertson. I just dont see a roster spot for him. Along with Kerfoot/Mik/Engvall/Kampf/Spezza/Simmonds how many bottom 6 forwards can we have on the roster?

The dream would be convincing Saad to come here for a year to play with Matthews/Marner and pump his stats, sort of like the Barrie deal last year with Edmonton. We'd probably have to clear a bit more space tho

22 man roster with our most expensive spares leaves 2.1m for a top 9 LW.

Ritchie/Donato/Heinen the best youngish upside guys in that range

Gally to continue the reclamation project.

Going no spare up front and trading Soup for a 1m replacement puts us up around/above 3.5m

Not done yet.

Scrolling through Cap Friendly to find >3.5 top 6 wingers that fit the description.

Radek Faksa, Oskar Sundqvist, Rikard Rakell (bit above 3.5)?

Saad and Tatar are the only two FAs left who I would count as meaningful top 6 players, and Saad is almost certainly not going to sign for ~3.5 million. So it will probably either be Tatar or a trade

So what's the going rate on Saad, 6M? Would love him as a Leaf but would need to move out some bodies. Is 4 years x 5.5M outrageous?
