I think if we're talking purely free agent signings, Saad and Galchenyuk would be really good. I could live with Tatar instead of Saad if the price is better.

There are a bunch of other decent options but... I can't shake Galchenyuk and the Leafs. He did so well with us.
I'd rather Galchenyuk than Tatar personally and wouldn't do both.

I think they're both LW scoring options you don't want to rely on

the only players worth moving to get quality back are not going to be moved by the management i.e. core4

rest of the crap we have is going going to return crap unless you move Rielly/Brodie then the D is even more garbage
i feel like there will moves that still be done, but let's see how it all plays out.

Anyone wanna take any guesses as the potential Cap Relief Options Feieman was talking about in that tweet?

Which teams are Cashstrapped and would want to make a top 6 Winger available?

Vegas looks like they need to move a forward, but I dont know if they'd retain to get anyone to a 3.5 ish cap hit.

Tarasenko retained 50% is 3.75, which the Leafs could fit

Washington could also move a guy. I think they want to move Kuz though.

The Maple Leafs might not be done after low-risk deals with goalie Petr Mrazek and bargain forwards | The Star

The 29-year-old netminder has a .910 career save percentage, but it was .923 last year and .956 the year before with some very good defensive teams in Carolina.

Mrazek and Campbell are similar: battlers, rather than positionally proficient.

“We like his competitiveness. We like behind the scenes that everything else about him checks out,” said Dubas.

“He was very open about how he sees himself in that partnership with Jack. It’s not just about supporting each other, but pushing one another. That part of it was important to us as well.”

Getting a goalie early seemed important around the NHL on Wednesday, with many finding new homes: Frederik Andersen (Carolina), Philipp Grubauer (Seattle), Martin Jones (Philadelphia), Jonathan Bernier (New Jersey), Jaroslav Halák (Vancouver), James Reimer (San Jose) and Braden Holtby (Dallas).

Mrazek signed for $1.2 million less than Andersen earned last year with the Leafs. That gave Dubas a little bit to play with and Kampf seemed to be the biggest beneficiary, earning a two-year deal at $1.5 million per season.

Kampf can kill penalties, like Hyman, but isn’t a scorer. The four-year veteran had one goal in 56 games last season. He can also play centre and defend the other team’s best players, which may allow Alex Kerfoot to move to the wing on one of the top two lines.

“He’s a centre that’s able to really take on very difficult assignments, both in the penalty kill in terms of defensive-zone starts and drive play up the ice,” said Dubas. “We feel he has tremendous defensive value. Last year the puck didn’t go in for him, but he still had a very positive effect on the puck.”

The 25-year-old Bunting (two years, $950,000 per) is from Scarborough and appears to have taken less to join his hometown team that he might have earned elsewhere. He scored at an extraordinary rate in Arizona — 10 goals in 21 games — but has yet to be an everyday NHLer.

Ditto Gabriel (one year, $750,000), a physical winger whose progressive views on social media in support of LGBTQ+ communities haven’t gone unnoticed.

“I just really like everything that Kurtis is about,” said Dubas.

.................

Dubas said the team building isn’t over. More signings are possible. Trades, too. Some of the better remaining free agents might lower their asking prices.

“I just think we’ve got a great opportunity here for a forward that maybe doesn’t get what they want on the first go-round, that looks at our group and sees an opportunity — particularly a winger,” said Dubas.

“We’re going to continue to look at any avenues we have to improve the roster, so nothing is out of the realm of possibility here.”
Sounds like he's begging a ufa to choose us....but I like the approach.

If Saad isn't being offered what he wants...one year on our top lines might help him get more money next year.

Vegas is over the cap Im pretty sure, or at the very least they need to shed some money... but not sure we're the best fit. I think they have some LTIR to use... again, not completely sure.

I suggested Marchessault for Kerfoot before free agency started. Gets them 1.5M of cap relief, gives us an upgrade for a 1.5M difference. They get a cheaper but solid player. Could maybe change him to Reilly Smith, pending UFA for the same cap hit.

Honestly at this point I'd trade kerfoot to Arizona for a 4th or 5th if I knew we could sign Saad at 5 x 2. I'd use the remaining 2 mill to sign Ritchie for 1 year.

Curious if the team has a specific target or want to wait and see where the chips land and pounce on a bargain.

Could also trade a Dermott/Engvall/Soup/Kerfoot to clear out A bit of extra space too if needed

I don't know why the Leafs are even entertaining the idea of trading Mikheyev. A 6'5" skating machine. He's only 1.6M and we need more speed/quality on the wings. Dude couldn't score but... We've seen what happens to guys like Grabner, Duclair, etc They just explode offensively.

I understand Kerfoot due to his salary and questionable offensive upside, and Dermott since we have some younger/cheaper alternatives.

How much cap-space does Detroit have?

If Bertuzzi is out of their price range...Is he viable?
