The Leafs will undoubtedly find a veteran to squeak through the waiver wire. Woll won't be ready to start the season, so they will probably want a goaltender to make sure they don't get derailed with injuries again.

Domingue and Jones are alright and fit that mold for sure. I'm hoping for a younger/more upside option personally. Maybe a goaltender that goes unqualified.

I think they just use Kallgren again TBH. He is probably better than anyone you can pass through waivers.

Kallgren and Woll as #3's next year is far from a bad place to be. We need to let them have some opportunities to see if they can be backup options by 2023-2024. Certainly like it more than Hutch as the #3, and a Hutch-type is the best guy who can clear at this point.

It is the idea of using them as backups next year that starts getting a little bit iffy. They haven't shown enough yet to be in that spot full time.

I guess I'm in the minority in thinking Kallgren did fine when called upon for spot duty last season.

I would be very comfortable having him as the 3rd and seeing what we have in him as a backup.

Honestly getting sick and tired of the constant comedy of errors with Dubas and goalies. As great as his eye is for later draft talent, I think he's weak when it comes to goalie evaluation, or at minimum the crappiest of luck when it comes to them. Guy can't get a goalie through waivers if his life depended on it......

Guy is kind of like the drummer for Spinal Tap when it comes to Leaf goalies........

Palat doesn't play similar style to Hyman, should age okay but definitely don't wanna get stupid with term.

He's a + 30 guy with a lot of tread already used on that particular tyre

I'd stay away and look at those RFA's that haven't been qualified first

Do we even have any bad contracts to send over to Ottawa if we trade for Murray?

If this isn't 50% retained with a significant sweetener Dubas has lost his ******* mind

And I'm no Dubas hater either

There is upside here. He actually did ok if you look at the numbers closely. He did better than Mrazek when healthy. The big question mark is his health for sure. He's owed a lot of money, not many teams want that.

Depends on the trade really because there will be an asset coming with Murray at 50%. The asset(s) attached, or the overall deal, will be the deciding factor for me.

As you well know goal tending is the most important position on any hockey team. Comparing Mrazek's numbers to Murray's isn't saying much as we need a legit #1 in net to carry this team forward.

The asset coming back would be a bonus but eventually the elephant in the room will come back to bite us.

I still believe that Talbot will eventually end up being our goalie until we can trade for better options later in the season.

It's not just Dubas that has been poor at judgement, it has been a long time since the Leafs have managed to develop a guy in the organization and him be a long time starter.

But yeah, the constant musical chairs of trying to find a tender is not amazing. It would be nice to just find a guy and stay with him for 5+ years.

My only guess would be that Kerfoot is the guy attached to this trade. And Dubas has to find the guy that can immediately jump into the line-up in a 3rd line role for the Leafs at fraction of the price. It has to be something similar to when they gave up Johnsson, but actually get something out of the forward instead of what they saw in Anderson.

Conditional draft pick. Or middling prospect.

I wouldn't use Kerfoot.

He still has a ton of value as a player who put up over 50 points with a $3.5 million cap hit......but a $750k salary.

I have no problem with Kerfoot. He's a guy that is somewhat useful and provides value as a 3rd line player that doesn't get a ton of power play time and contributes.

With Murray hitting waivers a couple times last year and the rumours that his name has been out there to be moved, Dubas should be in the position of power to make a smart move.

The Sens have guys like Stutzle, Grieg, Sanderson and Thompson that they won't part with. But picks and Formenton could be on the table.

That could be Bedard/Mitchkov.

Sens would be insane to put that on the table for Murray. Murray@50% won't cost dumping an unprotected 1st in a draft with 2 potential generational players.
No way. The way Chicago and Arizona are going they are all in on that 1st overall pick. Ottawa actually got better imo this off season so I don't see them being a bottom 5 team. S I doubt they'd add their 1st as a sweetner just to move Murray though to be fair.

Potential Pro: Major sweeteners attached to acquiring Matt Murray
Potential Con: The Leafs risking 6.25M of their cap space on the aforementioned

I'd want young, cost controlled ready to play in our bottom 6 now

I'm pretty sure the Sens have that in abundance
Oh yes, I was just referring to what the Leafs should send in the deal to the Sens.

.. major sweeteners eh. I’m terrified and intrigued.

Maybe we see a deal before the end of the night

He blocked the only other trade they lined up which saw them retaining and moving back from 7th to 16th.

Edmonton is likely going UFA route so Ottawa's only option is Toronto.

If you're Dubas, you squeeze the living hell out of Dorion on this.

Worst case? You sign him to a better contract as a UFA if he's bought out.
