The sweetener on a Murray deal needs to be Pinto or Formenton with Murray at 50%. Needs to be worth our wild getting a good young player.

C.Brown has 0 interest to me to add in this deal, you can always trade for a player like Brown at the deadline.

I mean young NHLer or a protected-first would definitely be more ideal than an asset like Brown.

I don't think the first is what Toronto is looking for at this point, they are more interested in younger good players that can fill holes in our lineup for cheap. You could always trade that protected player for said first, but probably easier just getting one in this deal.

I think there’s more players coming with Matt Murray. Whether that’s Connor brown or someone else I can’t see it only being just Matt Murray.

murray(retained) plus plus plus for jt after this round of bonus's got done ( i still think ott is the only viable option to trade him as he wants to stay in the Ontario region) makes less than his cap hit the next couple years so ideal for ottawa

or murray(retained) plus a first rounder for holl

not letting them off the hook for that contract we paid a first for marleau and at this point murray's contract is just as bad right now if not worse

Hopefully younger. Not sure I'm on board with taking pending UFA's as sweeteners. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Eric Comrie and Louis Domingue

Domingue is a good case of getting hot at the right time. Pittsburgh got lucky, but even then, sub .900% and over 3.5GAA in 6 playoff games isn't good at all.

He's pretty much the Hutchinson of the league. A good veteran 3rd stringer that struggles for a long time but can have a stretch where you go "Maybe he can be more?"

Take note that buying Matt Murray out would cost the same for Ottawa as trading him with 50% retained.

Is it legal to make a 3 way deal like Murray to a 3rd party (25% retained) then to the Leafs at 50% retained from that?

Correction: Cost of the cap hit would be the same but Ottawa would save $2.5M trading Murray for 50% retained.

Very much legal. That's how the Leafs were able to fit Nick Foligno at the deadline couple seasons ago.

He's a body that won't complain, and will cost nothing.
Martin Jones is another who should be dirt cheap.
Heck, grab another that can be waived and sent to the Marlies, completely buried.

I'd be just as happy if Kallgren was the back-up.

Of course, I'm all for the fantasies as well.
I'm sure there are 25 teams out there just waiting to alleviate the Leafs goaltending woes.

Murray at half is interesting and I'm sure the fans will give him a long runway :sarcasm:

I'd have no problem including the Leafs 1st. and a few prime prospects for a long term real starter.

As much as I wouldn't mind taking on Murray with a large retention (I think theres a starter there) we'd be still taking on a huge amount of cap that could easily be as dead as Mrazek.

Like even with 50% retention the added cost should be relatively massive based on what Edmonton had to pay. The cap hit is almost identical. 2023 1st round pick, Erik Brannstrom, two 2nds, etc.

May have well just stuck with Mrazek if they get Murray
Cap wise yes but I see Murray as a slight upgrade over Mrazek as a backup. Bigger, quieter game and he's won 2 cups. If he is our starter, I think we might be in trouble and Dubas is risking his job if that's who he goes into this season with.

Trading for Murray would be an absolute disaster for this organization. He is clearly washed up and can't stay healthy. The Senator fans can't wait to get rid of him.

Bottom of the garbage dump, so sad that some fans actually want this washed up has been.

The intent going into last year was to have Mrazek and Campbell share the net. I can't see them just handing the net to Murray, almost certainly he'd be part of a tandem.

The Leafs will undoubtedly find a veteran to squeak through the waiver wire. Woll won't be ready to start the season I don't think, so they will probably want a goaltender to make sure they don't get derailed with injuries again.

Domingue and Jones are alright and fit that mold for sure. I'm hoping for a younger/more upside option personally. Maybe a goaltender that goes unqualified.

There is upside here. He actually did ok if you look at the numbers closely. He did better than Mrazek when healthy. The big question mark is his health for sure. He's owed a lot of money, not many teams want that.

Depends on the trade really because there will be an asset coming with Murray at 50%. The asset(s) attached, or the overall deal, will be the deciding factor for me.
