at this point its a junk yard for goalies, any of these guys could suck or get their game back,it would be risk with most of these guys

It takes a bit more than just experience and mental toughness to be a good playoff goalie. He was great earlier in his career when he was also a great goalie, but has fallen off a cliff in the playoffs since then. He's also very injury prone and unreliable
I think mental toughness and a bit of defensive attention to details are the only thing stopping the leafs from being a high level contender in the playoffs

Reimer, Andersen, Campbell all have been questioned on their mental toughness in the playoffs

Not saying Murray would be my target but at 3.2M + 2nd + maybe another mid pick for not much else he's not the worse big ticket bet to make

Think he's likelier to win a round and go deep for us then Blackwood or Talbot

I think the sweetener needs to be at least as good as whatever we had to give up to move Mrazek. If it is, I am good with going from Mrazek to Murray.

Murray, like Gibson, is looking to return to form from 3 years ago. Gibson does not have the injury trouble and has carried a starter's workload, but he also costs huge assets, will come with a huge contract (both in term and dollars), and does not have anywhere near the kind of playoff success that Murray has had.

I don't think the idea is that Murray is our headliner, but rather as a part of a tandem with another reliable, but perhaps not "sexy", option. As I said yesterday, Dubas has probably seen what Campbell is asking for and it is simply too much for what he brings to the table. Kuemper is also likely looking at a ridiculous deal. And he has probably already sniffed around the trade market and the prices are either ridiculous or the guy doesn't want to come here. There simply is not much out there unless you want to go for a massive home run swing which is more likely to close our window than put us over the top. Murray is a massive home run swing which does not close our window if it doesn't connect, but may be less likely to be a home run than perhaps a Kuemper would be.

I don't "love" it, but I don't "love" any realistic option we likely have right now and I probably like this more than anything we can do outside of getting Varlamov.

I wish the organization could get back to steady, blue chip franchise building by investing in quality long term fixes at various positions than these high risk parlays. It's almost like a video game.

I don't know if a deal can be done without retention.....unless you traded Kerfoot and Holl but got back top prospects and picks on top of Murray.

I really think that Kerfoot would hold a ton of value to Ottawa with his cap hit of $3.5 M but a $750k salary.

Pure futures like a 1st round draft pick (reverse Marleau) would also work. But I think we live to regret bringing on Murray one way or another if he's the starter.

Murray might have the mental make up to win in some high pressure situations, but you also have to remember MAF came in and did spot duty for one and maybe both of the runs attributed to MM in 2016 and 2017. Plus he's just not a dependable 82 game regular season performer. So you bring him on with 50% retention, you still need another good citizen goalie at a Jake Allen level to make it work.

Depends on price again. 50% retention and a very solid sweetener leaves the Leafs in decent shape. Just have to trade Kerfoot for futures (let's say) and they would be back up to over $10.5 million in cap space, or roughly where they are now with at least someone in net.

See, my concern with this line of thinking is while Kerfoot is completely expendable, he's still a 50 point scorer while Murray is a borderline NHL washout at this moment. Just don't love the risky bets Toronto seems to be willing to entertain.

I'd almost want him double retained at 50% and have a 3rd team in there if we're taking a shot at Murray.

There is no reason to believe he'd be any better than Mrazek was at thos point.

I am in disbelief Dubas thinks Murray is any kind of an answer. It beter be 50% with a good asset attached and even than questionable.

I'm ok with Murray at 50% as a 1B, but we'd obviously need to add someone more reliable as a 1A. A Talbot or a Varlamov.
You're positive about this but as a Dubas fan, this is pushing me to the other side. I'll see what the deal is first

Impossible to evaluate without knowing the frame of the deal TOR/OTT would be discussing, but I think there is something there I could get on board with. Murray can't be the only goalie though for sure.

I also echo wondering if these teams fit for an expanded deal. Not sure exactly what, but Kerfoot/C.Brown/Joseph are all guys I could see fitting for the other team in some way.

Murray (50%) + Formenton I wouldn’t be too upset wirh

I love the skillset Formenton has, but at this point worth noting he was part of that 2018 Canadian World Junior roster and hasn't had his name cleared. We don't know how that situation is going to unfold yet. Just adds another layer of risk that I'm not sure if we would want to take.

Even an asset back with Murray doesn’t do a ton for me. Unless they have another goalie plan
There has to be another goalie in play or plan. Feels like It would be terrible to just run with Murray.

I am hoping it has assets or something because that would be...very insane if not.
