It's full retention, so half of that.Potential Pro: Major sweeteners attached to acquiring Matt Murray
Potential Con: The Leafs risking 6.25M of their cap space on the aforementioned

Honestly to get a price that makes sense to move him you are way better off buying him out.
He blocked the only other trade they lined up which saw them retaining and moving back from 7th to 16th.
Edmonton is likely going UFA route so Ottawa's only option is Toronto.
If you're Dubas, you squeeze the living hell out of Dorion on this.
Worst case? You sign him to a better contract as a UFA if he's bought out.

Full retention and major sweeteners? Then again, this is a team that's apparently been trying to trade Murray within the division quite a bit (the MTL rumour, Buffalo and now Toronto). It's full retention, so half of that.
I see Justin Holl being involved. Sens are looking for a potential top 4 D.
Murray @50% + Sweeteners for Justin Holl
Yep. They had retention and switching picks 7 and 16 on the table in the deal with Buffalo. That's a major sweetener there.Full retention and major sweeteners? What if the sweeteners are multiple picks? 3rd pick + 5th rd pick. Maybe a player involved as well.Even with sweeteners and max retention, it's not worth giving them value. Holl has value.
What's the context of this?

Holl's value was around a 3rd pick anyways
Exactly, if Holl has that value.....use it in a different deal. Make a deal with the Sens for essentially nothing (conditional pick, low end prospect), and then move out Holl for another pick. Not sure Ottawa is wanting to send multiple picks out in the stage of the rebuild that they are in.What if the sweeteners are multiple picks? 3rd pick + 5th rd pick. Maybe a player involved as well.

Fair enough. I'd still probably hope that we aren't trading away anything that has the equivalent value of that 16th overall.Even with sweeteners and max retention, it's not worth giving them value. Holl has value.

That makes no sense. Send him to AZ for picks. No need to use him when the cost for Murray should be zero.If the Sens are trying to save money, take Kerfoot please.
If we were getting back the 7th and full retention, that's about as big of a no brainer as there is.Fair enough. I'd still probably hope that we aren't trading away anything that has the equivalent value of that 16th overall.
Gotcha. Thanks. There was a trade lined up prior to / at the draft which would have seen Murray retained and the 7th overall pick traded to Buffalo for the 16th, Sens were gonna drop quite a ways back while retaining. Murray blocked the trade with his NTC.
Insiders have said he will waive for Edmonton or Toronto. Edmonton likely going UFA route leaving Toronto as Dorion's only option as a trade partner, the Leafs should not let him off the hook lightly or force the buy out and sign Murray cheap and get a good secondary goalie too.

He had 51 points and has a cash price tag of $750k for this season.
They aren't all in because of the issues with the estate, but they are trying to make it look better for a sale. If that's the case, then they really have to be sending a top prospect and picks. They're all in for next season. I can see them trading multiple picks if it lands a top 4 Defenseman
Georgiev gets $3.4 million a year from the Avs.
While I think they've downgraded in goal overall, their tandem could very well end up being cheaper than Kuemper alone.Georgiev gets $3.4 million a year from the Avs.
