I'm feeling optimistic about our goalie situation

Ton of Goalies available, and only a few playoff teams still looking

Yeah sounds like someone that is frustrated at the position he's given but might be a bad situation to have disgruntled players sticking around. Not fair to Talbot.
Talbot is under contract, so he has little choice other than he could retire.

It's just one year, and he can move on then.

Sooooo

Washington Toronto. Edmonton buffalo

Fighting for.

Jack. Murray. Kuemper. Hill/kakkonen?

With…. Comrie. Holtby in ufa as backups?

Gotta think Toronto provides best opportunity but I don’t see them taking 5 million.

I think they wait to see if Murray gets bought out
Best opportunity for what exactly? To win? Maybe. But these goaltenders want money more than anything.

Kuemper already won a Cup. Unless we unload the Brinks truck at his doorstep, I see no reason for him to want to come here. He's played in the States his whole career; doubt he wants to come to the market that ran a Vezina candidate Andersen out of town, made Campbell cry over and over, and now has turfed a goalie they just gave a 3-year contract to because he couldn't handle the heat. What would be his motivation beyond money (which we still don't have much of)?

I think we're looking down the barrel of a Matt Murray / Erik Kallgren tandem and it sure ain't promising.

I don't see it as that bad.
They have enough talent to make the playoffs.
And then watch rounds 2-4 at the golf course.
No different than any other keeper.

I'd be okay with Murray, as you mention even Vezina candidates don't prove squat, Andersen pulled the chute this year, Markstrom got humbled by Oilers, and Sheksterkin watched the finals with the boys at the yacht club.

What kind of assets should they go for in a Matt Murray trade?

Formenton + 2nd?

Top 5 protected 1st?

There were quite a few rumours that Bobrovsky could be had from Florida. 4 years left at 10 million per, but based on the assets coming back they might eat up to %50. Bob @ 5 would definitely be worth it, but the ask would have to be pretty high...

Sandin ++??

The best option would be to get a healthy Carey Price, IMO. But if that acquisition or another trade is not viable, Campbell is the safest option.

I'm guessing with the draft over they'd be looking for more of a hockey trade.

And any time you're looking at a Sens trade look at the real dollars
Sens names to look at:
- Brown 3.6 Cap owed 4.0 real dollars
- Zub 2.5 Cap, 3.25 real dollars
- Murray 50% retention is 7.5 in dollars spent, buyout cost is 10 million in real dollars

Leafs:
- Kerfoot 3.5 Cap, 750K real dollars

Jeez talk about revisionist history

Andersen ran himself out of town. And hadn’t played close to a vezina form in years by the time he left as a UFA.

I mean he was a Vezina candidate this past season, finishing fourth in voting, ahead of Vasilevsky. I know it's popular to scapegoat him for the playoff performances and his injury issues, but I was and still am bewildered by us not resigning him, especially to go with Mrazek at basically the same contract.

Most people could see he was still a great goalie going through some temporary injury and performance issues, and this past season showed those people were right.

I would kill to have Freddy in net next season for us at 4.5 mil, rather than having to have sacrificed our first to get rid of his supposed successor, and now having to chase worse goalies in FA or give up assets via trade. Those who wouldn't want Freddy in net for us next season are deluding themselves.

'Canes would have liked to have him in net too.

So is Kuemper and Murray our only 2 options for a starting goalie next year? Most of the goalies I saw available look like backup goalies at best.

Seems like Dubas is going to meet with Campbell again now that we have some extra cap space. I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up re-signing him.

Yeah that’s what I’m guessing. hoping to squeeze Campbell into something less than he could get on the open market but coming up some from what they’ve been offering so far.

I think the Oilers make him an offer he cannot refuse

It would have to be super painful for Ottawa. They didn’t make it easy for us when we gave them Connor Brown for Zaitsev. And Murray is way more dysfunctional and expensive that Zaitsev.

All about the Marner pass? Yet the color guy and ex NHL player Keith Jones in the replay literally says "this is play is all Austin Matthews"? The Marner pass is a routine pass over the blueline.

Oh wow ONE guy who never be able to do just half of what marner did as playmaker during his carreer say is all about Matthews, he should be true...

Just look how much space marner pass created... mcdonaugh had the choice to let his teammate in trouble with Matthews or try to help him...

For me be able to create space to your teammate by a smart play when your opponent played really tight defensivly is much harder than find an open guy all alone...

What Marner did was make a common lateral play coming over the blueline...this is the NHL not house league. No significant pressure from behind and the defender in front of him gave him plenty of space to make the pass. Keith jones was a pretty good hockey player, he knows what he's talking about.
