Even if he's an upgrade of Sunny it doesn't mean he's ready.

I'm taking a glass half full approach. Binnington steals us a round or 2, and makes a true contender offer something big in the summer. Still not sure we'd pull the trigger because we might think that we are just back as a regular playoff team.

If the Blues were the 8th seed and faced Winnipeg…it’s not really that intimidating. We’d be underdogs, but I think that’s a winnable series. I doubt Winnipeg would be happy to face a team that’s surging like this.

Winnipeg is a good team and if they aren't stupid I think that Helly will get enough rest down the stretch to not be completely gassed. But I will not be terrified of that team until I see Helly look like his best-in-the-world self for a sustained period of playoff hockey. Until then, I think every team that faces them should believe that they can beat the Jets. That is a damn good team, but so much of their identity starts with having the best goalie in the world. They are still a damn good team without Helly being on that standalone tier, but they aren't invincible when he's not playing on that tier. And we know exactly how good Binner can look when facing the Winnipeg white out.

Love the plan, but I feel the Oilers would destroy us. If, and it’s a big if that they make the playoffs, I’m all for a 1st round matchup against the Jets. Binner would be in Helly’s head even before the puck drops!!

Like the Jets, the Oilers would certainly be favorites over the Blues.

But they also don't scare me. Skinner has allowed 3+ goals in 8 of his last 11 games. In that same stretch, he's never held a team below 2 goals and he's allowed 4+ goals more times than he's allowed 2 goals. They have just 4 regulation wins in their last 15 games. Could McDavid and Drai go psycho mode and bury us in goals? Absolutely. They probably would. But Skinner is also more than capable of giving back of those goals.

You're going to be a sizeable underdog against whoever you play when you are the 2nd Wild Card team. But I don't see a team in the West that is an inevitable curb stomp in round 1 the way Colorado was against Nashville on their path to the Cup.

Realistically, I don't see Oilers as first round possibility. They aren't likely to pass Vegas and we are really unlikely to pass Colorado or Minnesota.

And neither of them mentioned above may catch WPG for the 1 seed in the West. They have a 14 point lead on EDM and 10 points on VGK. Unless Dallas goes on a tear and WPG falters, it's shaping up to be VGK/EDM vs COL/Minny and WPG vs VAN/CGY/STL/UTAH in the 1st round

Also, why would beating Edm be so satisfying? If anything im grateful for their mismanagement of players/contracts. If the Blues go out, or dont make it, im on the Oil train.
