Maybe not mentioned but CJ on insider trading said Leafs priorty is getting Campbell signed. Dubas will meet with him in Toronto and look to get him resigned before Wednesday. Dubas wanted to meet today but the network problem stopped those plans.
I have thought this. This is fine by me. If you aren't going after an upgrade, just keep your guy who is a good goalie. I don't need around the edges moves like Talbot or Murray

What Marner did was make a common lateral play coming over the blueline...this is the NHL not house league. No significant pressure from behind and the defender in front of him gave him plenty of space to make the pass. Keith jones was a pretty good hockey player, he knows what he's talking about.

A common backend pass right in the stick under pressure exactly at the perfect place, perfect timing... if he do this pass a half second sooner, matthews was not open and half second later paul was on him to make a defensive poke...

The reality it was a pretty hard play and marner made it look easy...

Ignore button works well

The troll thinks all our problems are attached to marner

Nothing going to change his mind. Stop wasting your time

I think the Oilers make him an offer he cannot refuse
They may well but my gut feeling is Campbell wants to stay and if the Leafs give him cash and term that’s respectful and somewhat competitive he will take less. Kuempers an Edmonton local and now that the oilers have plenty of cap I could see them throwing a ton at him.

Yep... guess Keith Jones missed the sensationalism of the Marner play, or maybe his voice failed him and and instead of the nonchalant tone, he really meant to explode with excitement. You are right, UNBELIEVABLE play by Marner. What was Jones thinking to say "Matthews makes the play".... the guy clearly is delusional and biased.

This certainly feels like an abrupt shift from what had previously been reported. Can't say I'm ecstatic but hopefully good guy Jack doesn't push for huge money.

Agreed... use it. no shame here in standing up for Matthews or voicing my opinionon Marner. When he plays a significant role in us winning a cup, I welcome people stuffing it down my throat. Will welcome it with open arms and I certainly won't take offense to it.

If it should be so easy, why he never be able to do it or just unable to see those kind pf play coming during his entire carreer? Marner had 2X during his first 6 seasons had already more than 2X number of assist he had his entire carreer

Its like kyle wellwood trying to tell those kind of pass or play thornton made his entire carreer and made his carreer was just basic play...

Lol it feels like they're going to bring back an almost identical team, plus or minus a few guys (Kase, Holl, Spezza, Mrazek).

They're really going to have to find some gems in free agency for improvement.

Not overly happy with keeping Jack. His highs are extremely high (vezina level) but his lows have him as a non-NHL goaltender

I guess we just have to hope he catches fire during playoff time

Is that the worst outcome, though? This is a really good team, it is going to finish in a top seed in the East again, and, possibly aside from goaltending, any upgrades is going to be tinkering around the margins. Obviously it be great if a prime Gary Roberts making $900k materialized or if some prescribed formula was available to get this core past the hump. But right now, the best option is to just keep running it back. At least IMO.

As for Campbell, I think I am with what appears to be the majority on this: I like Campbell, I think he's a decent enough goaltender, but I question whether he's reliable enough (both consistency and injury-wise) to take us where we need to go. His cap hit is also going to be interesting if he signs. He's 30yo and just experiencing success, so I don't blame him one bit for chasing money, but obviously our cap constraints mean any over-payment will effect what we can do with the rest of the roster.

That team was the best Leafs team in history despite the playoff failures. We could do a lot worse than bringing back that team minus a few changes.

I don't like the fact that the Leafs limited their options and are now considering going back with Campbell. The way this team is currently constructed and little room to improve based on financial constraints, Campbell doesn't move the needle whatsoever to help this team get over the hump.

The Leafs need to move on from Campbell unless they can get him at a bargain bin price with some term. Otherwise, we're looking to get into the same situation as the last couple years. Good enough to get there, but not good enough to steal them a game when it matters.

I'm all in favour of him getting paid. He's grinded his way in the league. I just hope it's not in Toronto.

Seems like Fleury and Husso might have been their preferred options but when they were re-signed and traded that changed the Leafs tune.

husso’s contract as a basis for Campbell isn’t bad

It's more likely that was the plan all along and the media didn't know what was going on.

Or still doesn't know what's going on

Waiting seems to be the smart plan. A lot of teams made their moves. Now it's basically 3 teams fighting over 2 goalies. And Toronto might have an inside track because of Campbell's history with the roster.

Hopefully he'll take a small discount.

You're not getting an elite goalie so the idea that Campbell coming back is some sort of failure is just unrealistic expectations.

Campbell and Holtby would be nice
If we run it back with Soup, which I'm okay with (at the right price)...I agree he needs a vet that can step up and take the starter role if need be, and take 30ish games off his plate. Can't have Kallgren behind him if it falls apart. Holtby would be a great add

Sign jack and get better forwards please. Considering this team issue seems to be scoring in the playoffs.
