Yall dramatic af

Go watch some other teams play. Every Contender has holes.

If Campbell plays his career a good .920 sv% we will be fine
Yup, the overreactions in these threads make me realize that many people don't watch other teams at all. I've seen the best players, offensive ones and defensive ones, all make mistakes that lead to goals. There was a game recently where Pesce fanned a pass and the opponent scored. It happens!

I appreciate the statistics. But we know playoff hockey is "anything can happen hockey" as opposed to the regular season. I don't feel confident in this group winning a playoff series right now because they don't seem to have the "playoff intensity" you would expect a playoff team to have.

Idk man. I see the looks on Matthews, Marners, and Nylanders face when we're losing and they just f***ing hate it. The team is so good they look effortless at times, but I wouldn't confuse that for lack of intensity.

You can see year over year the improvements (especially those 3) have made to get them into the next round. Again, I do think playoffs against either Tampa/Florida is a 50/50 chance, but I'd bet on us this year if we get goaltending.

Simmonds plays less than 10 minutes a night on the 4th line. That is exactly what he deserves, unless we want to take him out of the lineup altogether (which I would be fine with doing).

Spezza at ES is cooked, but he still has value on the PP and in faceoffs... And even then he is only playing 11 minutes a night.

These two play the least amount of minutes, as they should.

Seems he learned from that Thornton debacle.

Ideally, I think you add another solid bottom 6er and then you rotate Spezza and Simmonds based on what you need in the playoffs.

As for Muzzin, he is still a guy who can handle big minutes. Just needs to be more of a stay-at-home guy than a puck mover like he was before.

Maybe the thing to do would be to have Spezza and Simmonds be in some kind of right wing rotation. Spezza still take the face-offs and 2nd PP. Simmonds draws in when some toughness is needed or when it's clear that Spezza needs a break. Simmonds needs to be kept clear of the 2nd PP though.

If we are not confident that Marner/Matthews/Tavares/Nylander/Rielly/etc. are not going to win a playoff series, then the last thing we should do is spend assets.

Nobody we can add is going to upgrade those 5 guys, and nobody is going to suddenly make those guys have "playoff intensity" or make us win a series if you don't think those guys can.

Roll with them and hope for the best I guess.

I imagine that is what the Leafs will do. Maybe it will come externally, or maybe it will come by using Robertson more often.

We are not really looking at a guy who needs to be amazing or expensive though. There are a lot of cost effective options who meet the bill.

Okay, there is spending and there is buying.

Chychrun for example would be a buy.
Giordana would be a spend.

They should be willing to buy but at this point another Foligno should be off the table.

They are going to be an underdog, and I'm not sure there is a transaction out there that makes them a favorite.

The 1st two sure, for the most part Nylander looks like he couldn't care less.

I’m not a fan of the idea of dealing Nylander, however, if the rumors of the Leafs linked to Lindholm are true:

Nylander
Mrazek
1st

for

Gibson
Lindholm

Then ideally sign Lindholm to an 8x 6.5 deal using Reilly as a comparable.

Solves our G concerns long term and redistributes money from F to D and G.

Link? Was there a report?

I think most would be on board with that.

Only way Tavares leaves IMO is if they buy him out in the off season.
you dont buy out a guy who while in a huge slump is almost PPG and the team captain ...Ballard is long dead an buried, and lets leave his approach with players in the grave!
the only way JT leaves is if we win the cup, and he sees us 'need' his cap space to resign the core, only then might he agree to a trade.

Key!

What is good enough in the playoffs?

How does his career stack up against what is required in the playoffs?

I just check a few previous Cup winning goalies and Penguins, Capitals and Lightning all had over .920's to win it.

you give up low quality shots/chances, and you get a .920 you give the puck away to an open guy in the slot on the regular, and you get an .897

I wasn't advocating buying him out. Just pointing out that IF they wanted to get rid of him, IMO that would be the only way.
I don't believe they will and he will retire a Leaf one day.

No. Friedman yesterday during intermission said he thought the Leafs would go for the best defenseman they could get on the market. He then said that he thought Lindholm is the best dman available. He didn't say anything of substance that links the Leafs to Lindholm.
Okay thanks

most teams dont do it on a per shift basis :p

Marners season is a good indication of not taking a portion of recent games to make your judgment on a players value, especially when they have a massive extensive history of producing at elite levels as early as of just a few weeks ago.

Reading about buying out Tavares, having zero value and all that stuff is mind boggling overreacting. Nylander isn't trying, he's floating, he sucks... Take a step back, evaluate and breathe.

I’m good with JT Miller being the only acquisition.

Good for 2 playoff runs.

People assume that a goalie on a bad team with bad numbers = good when they were good in the past.
I swear like half of the trade proposals here are made by people who don't watch the players they want. Between that brutal proposal and all the guys who want the Leafs to trade for Manson, Chiarot, Braun, etc. no one can convince me that this isn't the truth.

What seperates great goalies from the good to average to sub average ones is the ability of making high danger saves regularly, and obviously making routine saves.

Shesterkin isn't the best goaltender in the league right now because the Rangers are the best defensively.

People are aware Gibson hasn't been that good in a few years right?

You’re not going to get a goalie at the top of their game because they won’t be available. You need to target guys who are struggling enough to be available, but good enough that you believe they can find their game.

Gibson to me has all the fundamental qualities you want in a goalie, and in the right situation he can easily be a 0.920. He is also still relatively young with some playoff success as well, and is signed long term to a reasonable cap hit.
