Also, been browsing the upcoming free agent class, and some potential buy low options; Listed some UFA's, but Dubas seems to look at RFA's that don't get tendered a lot.

UFA's

- Chris Tierney - Has struggled in Ottawa the past season and a half with the Senators, but showed in San Jose and the first two seasons with the Sens he could be a quality NHL player. Could he be had for a similar deal as we got David Kampf?

- Tyler Motte - I just love the way Motte plays. He's not going to be an all-star but I think he could be an excellent depth player

- Mark Pysyk - I said this last off-season, but Pysyk is an ideal third pair defender. I am not sure what will happen with Dermott and Holl, and if one or both will be moved, but even if Pysyk isn't a regular, he's a great guy to rotate in as the 7th d-man.

- Markus Nutivaara - He has missed most of this season with an injury, and it remains unseen whether he will have a lineup spot in Florida to come back to, if he were to return this season. Regardless, he will likely need to take a 1 year deal, and would be a strong target

RFA's - These are admittedly hard to project, as it can be tough to determine which are non-tender candidates

- Dominik Kubalik - Kubalik is likely heading towards non-tender due to his current 3.7M salary, and his lower production of 12 points in 35 games. It's unlikely Chicago will want to commit to another year at a similar salary for the 26 year old. However, that doesn't mean Kubalik can't be a good middle 6 winger, with the right linemates. Could be a nice fit beside Kampf and Kase

- Jake Debrusk - Has requested a trade from Boston, and as of now, that hasn't come through, likely due to his current 3.75M cap hit. If no trade is found by the deadline, he will almost certainly be non-tendered. Similar to above, Debrusk can be a good middle six winger with the right linemates. Would also be interesting to see what he can do with either of the top 2 lines. Just don't give him a 2 year deal like Nick Ritchie

- Miles Wood - Wood underwent a hip surgery in October, that knocked him out indefinitely, and may miss the duration of this season. With a cap hit of 2.75M, the Devils may not want to commit that salary to a player coming off a major surgery.

- Alexander Georgiev - The Leafs will likely need to look towards trading Petr Mrazek in the off-season, now that Jack Campbell has shown he can be a starter, and mostly stay healthy (knock on wood). Georgiev has been linked to the Leafs in the past, and now that the Rangers have committed to Shesterkin, the Rangers will unlikely qualify the goalie, who currently has a cap hit of 2.45M.

- Dylan Strome - 10 points so far this year, trade rumors, and a 3M cap hit. Similar to Kubalik, the Hawks may not want to commit the money to an underproducing player. I don't really see a fit on the Leafs, but worth a mention

Kane in a market like San Jose or Carolina where there is far less pressure and the media doesn't stir up shit when a player's fart is a bit too stinky is different than Kane in this market.

Just because we can bury him if he does something stupid, doesn't mean the repercussions won't linger. He does one thing wrong, the media will have a field day, and will continue shitting on the team, even when he is gone. And that noise is not needed.

Keep him out of the lockeroom. Talent is undeniable.. he's too much attention for this market though.

Kubalik should be a player the Leafs are all over. He's a great fit but with Mikheyev and Engvall playing well, I'm not as hungry to go after him right now. Kubalik with Kampf and Kase to make a Czech line seems really fun... and he's also a good player having a tough season.

Pysyk is also a top target of mine. If not before the deadline, then I'm hoping as a free agent.

Another low key player to look at would be Ryan Dzingel. No idea how bad his injury is but if he's injured until the playoffs... he could be a Riley Nash trade the Leafs make. He'd be a great depth player and someone to look at re-signing in the off-season.

Can anyone figure out a trade for chych that makes sense that fits the cap this year. I don’t see muzz waiving. Son

Kerfoot, sandin knies 1? That would make the money go?
I really can’t see one

Yeah Kubalik seems like the next cheapo pick up to reunite with some of our Czech top 9 forwards.

Why are people in a rush to deal Kerfoot? He’s developed into a solid top six winger who is affordable given our cap situation. He’s a player I’m not moving that’s for sure.

he is the only one that makes the money that could be moved out for chych.

he is pretty much gone for sure next year. We can’t afford jack really and a realistic update on D.

Muzz Holl is not a cup winning top 4

I wouldn't mind buying low on Kubalik, provided Ritchie goes the other way. Otherwise, a cheap depth forward addition from Ottawa (Paul, Tierney, Sanford etc.) is about as far as I'd go. I don't see this as a great deadline for additions and would rather not overpay to jam a square peg in a round hole.

If Mikheyev can regain some of his scoring ability, our priority should be to just re-sign him. If Mikheyev leaves, then I’d be all in for signing Kubalik to put with Kampf and Kase.

I wonder if Jasper Weatherby might be an interesting add. I keep thinking of him as another San Jose product in the mold of a Barclay Goodrow. He's a little younger but if we need a crash and bang guy he could be a cheap random addition. He seemed pretty physical and difficult to play against when the Leafs played San Jose.

Regain? His career high is 8 goals, he's on his 3rd season and is 27. We really aren't sure of what his capabilities are, his first season might have just been a flash in the pan.

Kind of why I'm skeptical of this team, we have a lot of what-ifs. Kase, Bunting, Mikheyhev, Ritchie.... we have to fill out the roster with these what is because of our three 11 million dollar guys. I really don't see how having three 11 million guys will work. Unless those guys are Matthews, Mackinnon and Kucherov.

Going to be very interesting with Soup now needing a big raise.

If all 3 of our $11m players dominated like Matty dominated last night, I could see winning with 4 players taking half the cap. Truth is JT and Marner are barely playing at Nylander's cap hit. JT is speed challenged and Marner has 4 goals against a goalie and can't score a PP goal if his life depended on it.

My top priority this off-season would be to trade Marner to create some cap flexibility. I wouldn’t do it in season as that’s a major shake up that could negatively effect the locker room. Philly would be the team I’d look at making a trade with. Konecny is a player that would need to be involved.

Engvall has proven he can do that job and he's nice and cheap

I'd be begging Muzzin to waive, he's starting to look bloody scary and Sandin seems like a ready made replacement

Before I get jumped on Im taking the young guy improving over the vet regressing (worryingly quickly)

I'd be careful what you wish for. Say what you want about Muzzin, but he plays tough minutes. Sandin is dominating easy minutes and as we've seen with Dermott that doesn't always translate in the top 4.

I'd like to see Muzzin with a better partner than Holl before I conclude that he is finished.

I wouldn’t be happy or upset if Muzzin were to be moved. This would take cap gymnastics but if we had Muzzin and Liljegren as our third pair, I’d be very happy about that. Sandin has looked really good and will only get better, he’s someone who can play on that second pair and ease up minutes from Muzzin.
