Also, been browsing the upcoming free agent class, and some potential buy low options; Listed some UFA's, but Dubas seems to look at RFA's that don't get tendered a lot.
UFA's
- Chris Tierney - Has struggled in Ottawa the past season and a half with the Senators, but showed in San Jose and the first two seasons with the Sens he could be a quality NHL player. Could he be had for a similar deal as we got David Kampf?
- Tyler Motte - I just love the way Motte plays. He's not going to be an all-star but I think he could be an excellent depth player
- Mark Pysyk - I said this last off-season, but Pysyk is an ideal third pair defender. I am not sure what will happen with Dermott and Holl, and if one or both will be moved, but even if Pysyk isn't a regular, he's a great guy to rotate in as the 7th d-man.
- Markus Nutivaara - He has missed most of this season with an injury, and it remains unseen whether he will have a lineup spot in Florida to come back to, if he were to return this season. Regardless, he will likely need to take a 1 year deal, and would be a strong target
RFA's - These are admittedly hard to project, as it can be tough to determine which are non-tender candidates
- Dominik Kubalik - Kubalik is likely heading towards non-tender due to his current 3.7M salary, and his lower production of 12 points in 35 games. It's unlikely Chicago will want to commit to another year at a similar salary for the 26 year old. However, that doesn't mean Kubalik can't be a good middle 6 winger, with the right linemates. Could be a nice fit beside Kampf and Kase
- Jake Debrusk - Has requested a trade from Boston, and as of now, that hasn't come through, likely due to his current 3.75M cap hit. If no trade is found by the deadline, he will almost certainly be non-tendered. Similar to above, Debrusk can be a good middle six winger with the right linemates. Would also be interesting to see what he can do with either of the top 2 lines. Just don't give him a 2 year deal like Nick Ritchie
- Miles Wood - Wood underwent a hip surgery in October, that knocked him out indefinitely, and may miss the duration of this season. With a cap hit of 2.75M, the Devils may not want to commit that salary to a player coming off a major surgery.
- Alexander Georgiev - The Leafs will likely need to look towards trading Petr Mrazek in the off-season, now that Jack Campbell has shown he can be a starter, and mostly stay healthy (knock on wood). Georgiev has been linked to the Leafs in the past, and now that the Rangers have committed to Shesterkin, the Rangers will unlikely qualify the goalie, who currently has a cap hit of 2.45M.
- Dylan Strome - 10 points so far this year, trade rumors, and a 3M cap hit. Similar to Kubalik, the Hawks may not want to commit the money to an underproducing player. I don't really see a fit on the Leafs, but worth a mention
