As someone replied previously, we don't have the assets to tackle top 6 LW and top 4 RD so we should think about which one we need more.

Tonight has me leaning towards D. The forward group is banged up but defense is really just down Sandin/Dermott, aka 3rd pairing LD, and both will come back at some point soon and be able to handle those duties.
I think the offence is fine. It all depends on the big 4 and if they play up to their capabilities. If they do, then you just need maybe one goal a game from the depth. I think that is doable. I would look to upgrade the defence. And honestly until Holl fell off a cliff, the defence didn't really scare me. Not like they used to with guys like Zaitsev or Barrie or Ceci.

I'm still thinking the Leafs should be all over Lyubushkin and Crouse. Over the 16 games I've watched of Arizona, Lyubushkin has looked better than Holl and Liljegren. I don't think he would end up in the top 4 but as a Holl replacement for now, absolutely. Crouse has speed. He hits often and hard. He's been killing penalties quite well too. Has a good wrister as well.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Crouse - Kampf - Kase
Ritchie - Spezza - Simmonds
Clifford

Was impressed tonight with Connor Murphy.

I was hoping to grab him from Chicago last couple of seasons.

He would be a marked improvement for our D corps….

Murphy and Khaira would add a lot to this roster for playoffs

Khaira just took a major concussion from Trouba and had suffered a few already. I'd be wary of trading for him.

I was also surprised Murphy is back on the ice as he just got a concussion from an Ovechkin hit a week or so ago.

I'd have interest in Murphy if he stays healthy but I think Kharia is gonna be too risky.

I’d love to add Greenway to this forward group and Hakanpaa or Mayfield to the defence.
Greenway would be a nice addition in the top 9 forward group. Not sure if we have what it would take to acquire him though.

Probably not enough but something along these lines:

- extend Jack Campbell
- Holl, Mrazek, Robertson, 2023 2nd for Khudobin (50% retained), Klingberg, 2021 3rd

I guarantee you there’s a team willing to trade a 1st round pick in a deal for Klingberg which already beats that offer lol

Ya know the standings look pretty interesting this year - seems there's a whole bunch of teams that aren't just bad but are older capped out teams going nowhere that might be looking for major reboots.

It might be a buyer's market this year. Lots of sellers.

who are you seeing that will be available that would be worthwhile?

I’m not seeing a ton with ekholm signed and Anaheim competing

I have a sneaking suspicion we take gio. He would love to come here.

Not sure exactly player-wise I just see a bunch of teams that may have had high hopes this year and made some win now purchaes that may want to do a major reboot if they continue to be out of the playoff picture so early - teams like PHI, NYI, MTL, VAN, CBJ, DAL, WPG, CHI. And then add in the teams that expected to suck and would always be interested in selling like SEA ARZ OTT BUF.

Giordano is an interesting name/possibility. Captain of the Kraken, yet also a pending UFA. I thought the former meant he'd be ending his career there, but...

Why would the Leafs have interest in a pure LD? Giordano has never played RD. Muzzin has never played RD. Sandin has never played RD. Rielly has never played RD. All 4 would likely be in the lineup, so we are playing a guy on his off side who does not really have familiarity with it.

There is an article in the athletic where he talks about how bad he wants to win

He also talks about his dad and how close he is after a family tragedy. And how he grew up watching to with his dad.

Toronto is home. Toronto is a playoff team. Toronto needs D. Brodie was his partner forever.

Seems like a really good fit.

????? Sandin and rielly have. Rielly was paired with gardiner in his career and said he would do it with muzz.

I think muzz is slowing down. It’s not ideal right now for sure. But I would look at a rielly Lilly pairing to see.

Gio. Brodie was a dominant shutdown pair forever.

muzz sandin.
Rielly lilly could work.

I don’t see a great rd option. They will do something.

Unless we could get like a zub?

All of that definitely makes sense. It just seems like a great deal of roster reshuffling for the Leafs (breaking up the Rielly-Brodie pairing, LD not being much of a team need).

That’s a really nice story, and in a vacuum I’d love to have him on my team, but if you pair gio-brodie then you have Rielly Muzzin & Sandin all needing to play the left side. Sandin & Liljegren have been elite as a pairing and you probably want to shelter them as a bottom pair. Okay, so then you’re forcing Muzz and Mo together. I just don’t see the fit.
There’s two spots that should be looked at to be upgraded are top 4 RHD & top 6 LW.
If you can turn Dermott and Holl into a legit second pairing RHD & a steady league minimum #7 who’s comfortable in that role that makes sense.
Same goes for upfront, if you can consolidate some depth & or non roster assets and upgrade the top 6 go for it.

Oh I don’t think it’s perfect. But his family. Wife family (married his school teachers daughter) are all here. In the article he is quoted as saying he is r done.

his wife says that his dream is the cup and that’s all he wants (won’t re sign In seattle) they address him Being trade bait.

I get i t’s not perfect. But I think

Gio. Brodie.
Rielly Lilly
Muzz. Sandin could work.

If they could get a rd that would be ideal but dubas has always been about figuring it out. Babcock was the only one obsessed with Ld rd

What RHD is realistic? I don’t. See any. Braun maybe?

To Toronto: Damon Severson
To New Jersey: Travis Dermott, Pierre Engvall, Nic Robertson

Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - Severson
Muzzin - Liljegren
