Who would he replace in the lineup?

We need to possibly get a depth d-man, but guys like Miller and Chiarot aren’t depth guys, so not sure why they get brought up.

Our main addition at the deadline will be coming to the forward core.

Right now that’s looking like it needs to be someone to play with Kase and Kampf on L3, if it’s not going to be Engvall, Ritchie or Mikheyev. Ideally, I’d like someone with a scoring touch.

I think we’ll be sticking with our 7D and possibly add in a decent 8th guy for depth.

Ritchie has looked pretty good on the third line with Kampf and Kase. We haven’t even seen how Mikheyev would look playing with those two either and you’d think his game would really compliment them.

Wow I couldn’t believe it that MDZ was actually making 2 million only to find out he’s got another year at that salary on his contract! Not sure how he managed that but good for him! Lmao

LEAFS - SEATTLE
Jamie Oleksiak
for
Justin Holl, Ilya Mikheyev, Joey Anderson/Prospect & 1st

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Oleksiak
Sandin - Liljigren

Allows us to eventually move on from Muzzin as well

Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - Oleksiak OR Oleksiak - Liljigren
Sandin/Liljigren/Dermott

..... hard pass. all of that for Oleksiak?

Jensen from Washington would be a nice add for the top 4. Good shutdown guy who can skate and move the puck well. Just don't know if Washington would want to move him.

Miller and steady do not belong in the same sentence. The only place Miller is *maybe* an upgrade is the 30 seconds PP2 plays.

He's playing on the shitty Sabres. He's been a good defenseman everywhere else before Buffalo. Looked good in Boston, was a stud with the Golden Knights as well. Sabres are God awful.

*Edit* didn't even realize he's a former soo greyhound and born in Sault Ste. Marie. Soooo he's a perfect fit!!

I'm still on the Ilya Lyubushkin train. Has played relatively difficult minutes for Arizona the past few years and hasn't been terrible at it (despite Arizona being really bad).

He can skate, reasonably physical. I think he might be pretty good once he leaves Arizona.

Wonder what Gurianov would cost?

wouldn’t mind cogliano, know his family in Toronto he’s solid depth for cheap and plays hard.

I think the needs are going to be as follows;

*Top 4 RD because Holl isn't one
*Top 6-9 LW, ideally of the goal scoring 2-way variety.

I think one of Engvall/Mikhayev can handle the LW spot with with Kampf-Kase

Looking at teams that might be interested in trading for Holl because they, at this time, seem to be out of the playoff mix, I was surprised how few defensemen are out there that I'd be interested in acquiring. Whether it's a contract issue (we can't afford, retention boosts the cost, etc.), the minutes that player would be required to play/game, age...

Ottawa, Chicago and Vancouver don't have a right handed defensemen I'd be looking at.
Buffalo and Seattle have Miller and Oleksiak respectively, but Holl alone wouldn't cover their cost, retention necessary, how much would you pay?
Philly, Braun maybe, he'd save you 200K on an expiring deal.
Arizona has Lyubushkin which would save you around 600K, but he's a UFA at the end of this season, and is playing only 18:07 minutes per night. Can he handle the extra 3 min Holl plays?
Montreal...Chariot I can't see us dealing for and he's left handed, is a UFA after the season, and isn't having a great year.
Isles have Mayfield, who in my view is the best of the bunch with a 550K saving v Holl, plays 20 min/night, is right handed and is signed for this year and next. But what would NYI ask for in return? It would certainly be more than Holl 1 for 1.

Sometimes, the best course of action is to do nothing. I suggest the Leafs wait this out a bit, they have time, aren't playing horridly, and Holl (Muzz too) may rebound. Another option is to find out what Liljegren can accomplish beside Muzzin and drop Holl into a competition with Dermott to play with Sandin. The TDL is in March, post Olympics. A lot can change by then.

nope, they will add more then a 8th D

If I'm right, we literally have,,, ZERO ,,,nhl games played at D in the system?

Lyubushkin, Del Zotto with 1 million retained, Miller retained are good 6-7 options, if the Miller before buffalo would be a huge upgrade over Holl

Reilly, Brodie
Muzzin Liljegren
Sandin Miller
Dermott

Biega and Dahlstrom have plenty of NHL experience. Rubins is getting experience. Menell has NHL and KHL experience.
