Nothing wrong with a little morbid curiosity but aside from that I'm not sure Kane would work unless they bought him out and we signed him to a league minimum. Even then he's got that reputation.

I know I'm in the minority around here but I would absolutely love Kane on this team. The guy is a top 10 power forward in the game and would truly make out top 6 one of, if not the best in the league. San Jose has already let teams know they're willing to eat 50% and if you could find one other team to eat 25%, getting Kane at less then 2 million is an absolute steal.

Does he have the greatest reputation, absolutely not. But let's remember, a lot of current players have done a lot of stupid things and teams/fans tend to forget and move on. I guarantee if Kane came here and played great hockey, while dropping the gloves if anyone went after Matthews or Marner, people would forget very quickly the things he's been accused of.

Gross. Stay the f*** away Dubas.

Just putting it out there that both San Jose and Vancouver could be prime targets for the Leafs to make a trade.

I think it is a foregone conclusion that the Leafs are done with Kivihalme (just acquire Krys, and I think they'd rather give Krys, Hellickson, and Hoefenmayer all of Kivihalme's future opportunities). Joel Kellman from San Jose could be someone the Leafs target for Kivihalme. Saves San Jose some money since he is on a one-way deal and it gives the Marlies some quality center depth. Kellman, like Kivihalme, is blocking opportunities for younger, higher upside players in San Jose's system. Similarly, John Stevens from Abbotsford is similar, but I believe a much less likely, target in a Kivihalme trade.

Mac Hollowell could also be someone who could be of interest to both teams. Each team has one higher end quality RD in their system (Merkley for San Jose, Woo for Abbotsford), but have practically nobody else anywhere in their system. Hollowell would arguably be each team's 2nd best RD prospect, and both teams had a number similarly aged prospects playing today. This includes William Lockwood and Scott Reedy, who played under Ryan Hardy in the USNDP just like Chad Krys did. Neither are exactly struggling as prospects like Krys was, but I am sure Hardy wants to keep tabs on them regardless.

Finally, I can see the Leafs looking at Madison Bowey as a potential RD depth option at the TDL, and he was playing for Abbottsford today.

It is not like Evander Kane was the only guy worth watching at that game today, and that is assuming it even means anything. Maybe we wanted to scout the San Jose NHL game later today and decided to catch the earlier AHL game as well. We like to do our due diligence.

Evander Kane's unique power forward skillset is undeniable, but my hesitation to bring him onto the Leafs would be three fold: salary gymnastics would be a nightmare unless he San Jose buys him out or there are multiple teams brokering a salary retention scheme. Second, his abilities have never been harnessed by any NHL team towards real, serious team success other than that one WCF run with the Sharks, and the third is his production to pain in the ass ratio isn't that good. I mean if he was a 50 goal scorer but an absolute brick head, there's a risk there.

Yeah I can say with 100% certainty that most, if not all, current players have not done anything remotely close to what Evander Kane has done.

Yeah it's not so much even his off ice reputation alone. It's the fact that he's a $7.5 million cap hit and damaged goods. Can't think of the Leafs being in position to absorb that kind of contract on a goody two shoes with no locker room issues.

The Leafs wouldn't be getting him at a 7.5 million cap hit and he's far from damaged goods. He's literally coming off probably his best year. If you could get Kane at 1.75 million. You do it all day.

Not that it makes a huge difference but I think his AAV is 7 million.

Go all in for Klingberg.
In the off-season sign him to an extension and move Muzzin.
He can be Sandin’s partner going forward.

You do realize that he wants like 8+ mill right?

You will need to move Rielly, not Muzzin, to be able to afford him.

I don't really see the fit. We'd be adding another PP option and subtracting a PK option. Liljegren might essentially be boxed in as a third pairing d-man until Brodie's contract expires as a result of this. I'm also not sure about a Sandin-Klingberg pairing from a defensive standpoint.

As someone replied previously, we don't have the assets to tackle top 6 LW and top 4 RD so we should think about which one we need more.

Tonight has me leaning towards D. The forward group is banged up but defense is really just down Sandin/Dermott, aka 3rd pairing LD, and both will come back at some point soon and be able to handle those duties.

Mayfield is the guy you go hard for, been thinking about this today

Reilly Mayfield
Muzzin Brodie
Sandin Liljegren

Is an extremely well rounded d corps

Probably have to move Holl and Kerfoot to upgrade the D and top 6 LWer. I'd hate to go all in and have them lay another egg in round 1.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Kerfoot Tavares Nylander
Mikheyev Kampf Kase
Clifford Spezza Simmonds

Reilly Mayfield
Muzzin Brodie
Sandin Liljegren
Lyubushkin

Ritchie, Holl, Dermott, Engvall out

I think to get Mayfield, they're going to want a 1st or Robertson / Amirov.

I don't necessarily mind because he has 1 more year at an amazing cap hit. We can send back Holl in the swap, they get to elevate Dobson to 2nd pairing and Holl can take the 3rd pairing duties without effecting their cap too much.

Rather keep Ritchie over Mikheyev for the playoffs.
