Again he didn't quote the entire deal if you look at the entire deal which also included Robertson Niemela and a 1stI imagine they would want good players though.
Dermott is useful, why would they want Holl or Ritchie?

For starters, our high end forwards couldn't create offense.
Did you watch?
The same Montreal Canadiens that glided to a stanley cup final in the same year and the Columbus Blue Jackets that swept the Lightning in round #1, a team that was coming off a presidents trophy and who topped it off with cups the following two seasons? They played Columbus and Montreal….
It sickens me to think back to that series.Id agree in 3 out of 7 that was the case. The most frustrating part of this team is they come out flat and give up a ton of chances at the beginning of the game and then they have to claw their way back. To me scoring has never been an issue for this team. Even when the top guys were quiet, the depth guys Kyle acquired were able to score which is good. The problem is the team doesn’t play a full complete game for 60 minutes which includes defending & not leaving Campbell out to dry and scoring early so you don’t have the pressure to play catch up

Dermott, Niemela and the 1st I could see them having interest in, not sure if that's enough.Again he didn't quote the entire deal if you look at the entire deal which also included Robertson Niemela and a 1st

The depth looks better this year for sure but I'm not really going to get excited about anything until they can show it in the playoffs. PTSD I guess.
I know you don't agree with the stats (whether they are advanced or not) that @zeke is posting but he's right. The defense really hasn't been the issue over the last 2 years. Matthews/Marner combining for 1 goal in the series against the Habs really killed us.
You're right when you say that the Leafs would be in trouble if one of Muzzin, Rielly or Brodie went down but in reality, so would the majority of teams in the league.
Here's to hoping this is the year they can break through. We all want the same thing (most of us).
It kind of blocks his path in Toronto long term. Making him less valuable to Toronto. I think it's easier to move on from him, if he could potentially be trapped on the 3rd pairing his entire time here. With Muzzin it's only a matter of time before his body breaks down and Sandin jumps him. His contract here allows Sandin some more time to gain experience and gives the Leafs depth without blocking off the path for Sandin.Adding Robertson Niemela and a 1st is interesting. One one hand I see it as an overpay on the other you are dumping some salary. Be interesting to know whether Zona would bite.
I still say Zona demands Sandin in any deal for Chychrun.

Most people understand that defensive hockey does better in the play-offs. That doesn't change how the numbers zeke presented are skewed.
Columbus and Montreal were the weakest and second weakest offensive teams in the respective play-offs where they met the Leafs. Of course they aren't going to score a lot, so posting a chart where they didn't score a lot doesn't necessarily demonstrate defensive prowess
but our defense could def use an upgrade.
I already showed the contextualized numbers.
Here's how every team did defensively against the Habs ONLY in the playoffs the past 2 years:

Actually, we outscored them in the series, and the only reason it wasn't by more was Price, not their defense. At the end of the day they outscored us and kept us off the score sheet and that has a lot to do with the job that their defenseman did.
The other teams ranked 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, and 28th defensively over that 2-year period. Leafs playoff defensive results were pretty similar to the back-to-back Stanley Cup champions. So we did better than 3 bad defensive teams and Vegas playing like junk….
