It 100% has to do with Petro. And if he came to the conclusion that he could offer Faulk, a non top 50 defender in hockey, 7 years and 6.5 million per, but wouldn't budge on 8x8.5 for a top 5 defender in hockey, he needs to be fired.

They money could have been easily found to go more than 8 mill, but Army chose not to.

He plays pretty physical, right? I know he’s good for about 20g
He's no Ryan Reaves, but Toffoli is not going to shy away from physical contact.

Not flashy but has a good shot and a nose for the net. Solid all around player who is pretty good defensibly as well. FWIW I was really hoping the Blues would trade for him at the deadline last year...I think Vancouver's offer was just too rich for the Blues to match.

Just don’t see where he’d fit. I think they are adamant about giving Kyrou first dibs on a spot.

That's the thing about Toffoli tho, I see him as a very versatile player who can play up and down the line up.

Plug him on RW with Schwartz & Schenn or maybe on Thomas' RW on the 3rd line to spread the scoring around and be a veteran shooter catching fithly Thomas feeds. Pretty sure he play both wings as well and could even fit on LW with ROR and Perron.

I'd have hated this signing if we had Pietrangelo. Krug is a PP speciailist on a team that already has Faulk and Dunn. He relies on speed. Those are not the players you sign into their mid-30s. This deal signaling we lost Pietrangelo also, that is just rubbing salt into the wound...then stabbing the wound, then burning it, then nuking it, then pouring some more salt on the rubble. This absolutely sucks. I'd honestly rather have done nothing and rebuilt if we couldn't sign Pietrangelo. As it stands now, we will have a few more years of mediocrity before several years of being bad when ROR, Schwartz and Parayko all flee this sinking ship.

So we have now increased with one guy who can't be trusted on ice when we lead by 1 and 1 minute left on clock. Krug step group with guys like Faulk and Dunn who sucks at defensively.

This is craziest turn around in one year. From Stanley Cup champ = best defense of NHL for Edmonton type of defense.

I was a fan of Krug while he was in college and i knew Sweeney had scouted him personally a few times and had developed a rapport, so when he signed with the Bruins, I was ecstatic.

Flash forward a couple of years, and one of our own Kirk ( use to post all the time on our forums, got a job at Redline and now scouts for a USHL team ) wrote this fantastic article on Torey. Somehow, i became an even bigger fan.

Enjoy the article and congratulations!

Krug train is rolling

It wasn't even six games. He was on fire for five periods. The rest of the series he was making his usual defensive gaffes.

Thank you! I thought I was taking crazy pills. He had like 2 good games at the longest and then was back to his old self.

As I have not posted anything positive about Faulk in a year I tried to give benefit of the doubt ;)

Not a big fan of Krug. How many defensively deficient PMD PP specialists do we freaking need? Not happy at all right now.

Krug is described as short and thick and plays bigger than he is physically...Yeah that sounds like a guy who might be half the player he ever was by age 32. And we signed him for 7 f***ing years. Way to go Army way to go !!!!!!!!!!

To sum up my thoughts: I’m not upset about signing Krug, I do think he is a good addition to our d-core. Just not as a backup plan to losing Pietrangelo.

I am upset in how we lost Petro. As it seems mismanagement with other prior moves, and an unwillingness to meet some (in my opinion) relatively easy concessions is what lost us an elite defenseman. See the tweet below for example:

In the worse case scenario that Pietrangelo’s game absolutely fell off a cliff and hit rock bottom, the last few years of the contract even without a no movement clause would boil down to the “farewell before retirement” tour anyway. So an NMC and some signing bonuses which from Armstrong’s other quotes sounds like ownership was on board to pay seem like very easy concessions to make to sign an elite d-man of Pietrangelo’s caliber. Especially since from other reports it seems like they did agree on the actual dollar amount and 7 or 8 years wasn’t a difference maker for Petro.

we definitely didn’t lose him because of something we absolutely couldn’t give/afford or because some team came in and blew us out of the water with an outrageous offer we couldn’t match. Armstrong mismanaged the whole situation starting about a year back, and then chose to dig his heels in for the wrong negotiation.

Edit: based on the linked tweet even though Armstrong offered a partial NMC, I think it was offered after much damage had been done in the negotiations, and it’s still not the full NMC Petro was/is looking for. While I do agree you don’t want to hand those out along with huge money contracts to everyone, a player of Pietrangelo’s caliber I believe is the exception to the rule.

Heard on Sirius XM earlier in the day that we were interested in Corey Perry...
Of all the forwards available, I hope to god we don’t sign him!

This signing is Armstrong basically admitting that the Faulk one was a failure. What exactly are we paying Faulk for if we had to bring in another expensive offensive D-man for the same role?

From Cup champion to pretender in 1 year. Not happy at all. At this time in the off season last year we were talking about Pie getting a statue downtown. Dudes wife is from STL, his triplets are less than 2 years old, and a huge support structure here. Seemingly the easiest extension to get hammered out. Army f***ed this up. If the quote above me is accurate, this reeks of Army smelling his own farts. Pie paid his dues here, and was instrumental in getting this town a cup. Army did him a disservice, and now the foundation of our team is gone. No buts about it.

Krug is not a massive downgrade. He is a 50pt+ Dman who like 27 rarely gets hurt. And hes roughly 2million a season cheaper.

This is a fantastic signing IMO and enables us to keep the window open. Take off the homer glasses.

Thanks for the cup 27 and I wish you nothing but the best.

Krug in no way is a #1D, he’s one of the most sheltered Dmen and McAvoy is easily the best Bruins Dman.

Krug is elite on pp, not at es
If he’s on your top pair you are in Worlds of trouble
