I'm not necessarily directing this at you, but it's hilarious that the same people complaining about Krug being a small PP specialist were raving about Scott Perunovich, a 5'9 LHD who thrives on the PP.

I posted earlier that I think it might be a good idea to trade Perunovich. I would rather not have both of them, and it looks like the Blues are committed to Krug.

The Staal trade was brutal, but as this point in his career Koivu was a below replacement level offensive player. Good defensively, but he’s a 4C if your planning on winning anything.

They are also adding a mega-star in Kaprizov and don’t sleep on Rossi. But Kaprizov coming in is a superstar forward, don’t sell him short.

If Talbot/Kakhonen provide adequate enough goaltending (couldn’t be worse than Dubnyk/Stalock if they tried) then Minnesota will be competitive. Whether you think they’ll make the playoffs or not, is a tough call, but they’ll be competitive.

Their 1C is either Nick Bonino or Joel Eriksson-Ek(unless they decide to throw Rossi in the deep end immediately). They need their goalies to be winning the Jennings to be even remotely competitive on a nightly basis.

Noting that Krug is a PP specialist isn't the same thing as "complaining" about it. It's just a factual statement.

I have no idea what overlap you're seeing between Perunovich supporters and Krug signing detractors. I've certainly been pessimistic about Perunovich translating to the NHL. Go back and read his draft thread if you don't believe me, and I certainly wasn't the only one. Honestly, there isn't much "raving" about Perunovich at all. It's not like anyone here is hyping him up as a future star or something, outside of one guy who also happens to be the biggest fan of the Krug signing on the forum. What a weird connection to try to draw.

Perunovich could be our Hughes. I think he’ll percolate in the AHL (if they even play) for a year first, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he forces his way onto the roster.

No he isn’t. You’re becoming myopic in your criticisms of Faulk and Krug being offensive PMD.

Hughes is a top 4 defender, maybe top pairing, on an ELC. Let’s settle for top 4 for Perunovich. Having a guy like that on a cost controlled contract is of huge benefit to the team. It’s the contract status and team control that are the important details in the comparison.

I don't think so. He is very good at what he does well, but is limited. I think the Blues will have a tough time attracting cream of the crop free agents (as evidenced by Tavares a couple years ago) but Krug - while a fine player - isn't in that upper echelon of FAs that rarely become available. He is also a midwest guy and I'm sure STL feels familiar to him particularly compared to Boston. Of course being competitive will always help but I don't think the Cup win had that much to do with anything in this particular case.

Eh for all the talk about Hughes’ offensive prowess, his defensive abilities are pretty solid as well. If Perunovich turns out anywhere near the player that Hughes is we should be thrilled.

I watched some Torey Krug highlight videos and wow can Torey fire the puck. Great one timer from up high at the point but he has an arsenal of shots he can pull close to the net as well. Not surprising I guess that a 5'9 dude can get shots off so quickly but I still came away from those vids really impressed with his offensive game. I realize everyone here is familiar with Krug but I thought I'd share my excitement for seeing this guy in the Bluenote.

Different scenario. Not only did we beat his team for the Cup, he got to see first hand what we're all about. I can see his eagerness in signing.

But generally sure, once you win you seem more legit as a franchise.

He seems like someone who’s going to fit in seamlessly in our locker room.

I’m personally glad to have him on our team, and I think everyone else at some point will too. All of my friends from Boston were absolutely devastated that he left, if that says anything.

The more videos and research I’ve done on him, I’ve noticed he’s pretty damn clutch. A lot of game winning or tying goals and really solid in the playoffs.

Also, he’s at around a PPG in his career for every Central team besides Colorado(go figure).
