He has upside, unfortunately if he proves it this season we'll be paying to offload Murray to sign Samsonov long term next season. Oh well. Problems for future Dubas i suppose.

It's hard to imagine getting worse goaltending that the Leafs did from New Years onwards.

Here's the other problem I see with this: You've got two guys who want to be the starter. They're both somewhat young, these kind of tandems rarely end well for all parties involved.

You need two guys who know their place in the pecking order. Neither one of these guys will want to "settle" in a backup or 1B role

Neither guy is in any position to be demanding starts.

This is the best possible goalie to sign today imo. Go look at how many solid starters in the NHL don't hit stride until their 2nd or 3rd organization.

Honestly really happy with this signing!! Samsonov was a former first round pick and highly touted and at his age has lots of upside and probably could have taken more money going elsewhere and sees an opportunity to be a #1 on a contending team.

Really worried we were going to run with Murray/Kallgren so this makes me feel a little more comfortable.

Dubas knows his job is on the line and I think it definitely is going to be dictated on how this goalie duo performs. I wanted Gibson but this to me is a good tandem to roll with.

I like it because we need an upside guy to go with Murray. Samsonov has untapped potential for sure. That insulates us a little bit from a Woll Kallgren reality and buys them time if things don’t go well to start the season.

Don’t know a lot about the player but caps fans seemed to like him over Vanecek and said he looked decent in moments in the playoffs. Has all the tools and is still young. Considering the market Leafs could have done worse than Murray-Samsonov.

Samsonov at 1 year at that cost is worth the gamble.

He has a 1st round former pedigree and at 25 just coming into his prime.

I personally think because of injury history of Murray, that we might see Samsonov appear in more games than Matt next year.

Best thing we could have done was to sign a young goalie with high upside to tandem so I'm glad we at least went this route instead of getting an old "reliable" vet.

He has a high pedigree, hasn't lived up to it yet but fingers crossed. It's about time we get a cheap miracle.
