So long as the price is reasonable this is a gamble you make every day. More upside with a Murray/Samsonov pairing than a Campbell/Mrazek one.

This is the winner in this thread.

Leafs clearly didn't have faith in Campbell and believe Murray can lift his game when it matters, post-season.

I thought Campbell was solid, but, they didn't like his really wide inconsistency of "all-star or just bad'. I will also say, Leafs defense is better than some give them credit for. I certainly prefer our D to Oilers.

great signing. Will be still under team control after the year. Healthy competition for Murry. I actually think it has more upside over a Campbell/Mrazek tandem TBH

Dubas allocates 7M to goalies and gets two starters for 6.48M.

What I really like about Samsonov is his career record of 53-23-10. I don't care if you're sub .900, just get the W.

That’s a low risk gamble worth taking. Smart decision regardless of what the outcome might be.

I know Murray is the starter but I see Samsonov as the 1A and I would take Samsonov/Murray over Campbell/Kallgren all day…

Dubas is gambling that either Murray bounces back or Samsonov reaches his potential and justifies his draft position without handcuffing us with long term contracts on either. I will live or die with this duo as well..

Why not trade him to the Leafs for a 7th ?? Samsonov for free is too good to be true and you know what they say about that. Even so, worth the risk if cost is low and we have some money left to find some depth forwards.

Leafs knew they didn't have to give up assets to get him and didn't

Same thing with Kampf last off-season. Knew the Hawks didn't want to sign him - so opted to pounce on him in free agency
