Unless they want to take the gamble on the short term I don't think 1.5 is a number that you jump at Dermott
Might have been their thinking with the 1.5 million. Maybe make him less of a temptation. That said, a 24 year old cost controlled defencemen with lots of NHL experience already isn't a bad thing. We saw what happened with Vegas when some guys were given a chance. Nate Schmidt was buried in Washington, then became a top 4 big time contributor in Vegas. Dermott I think could easily step into a Seattle top 4 and thrive. We really haven't developed him all that well tbh. We haven't given him PP2 time, instead we give it to Sandin for some reason. Barely use him on the PK, yet ask him to change his offensive style into a more defensively responsible game...I think Seattle would be smart to take him if we leave him exposed. But that's just my opinion

Calm yourself lol. Dermott signed means either Kerfoot or Holl is going out the door. If we can get both off the books we have 5.5 to beef up the 3rd line. Dermott, Sandin, Liljegren, Bogo will fill out the 4, 5 and 6 spots adequately
Well if it’s like that than I’ll take your advice. Sick of this team and it’s commitment to flawed ideology. Holl isn’t a top 4 dman, a top 4 dman should be able to play with most others and succeed, holl can only play with muzzin. Kerfoot makes too much, 3.5 can’t be afforded if he isn’t a full time 3C which he isn’t. I guess this gives a bit of hope for the 3rd line

He's only cost controlled for two years though. So you're not getting the value of the gamble on his potential because if you throw 7 he's coming back for double in two years

You either have to get him under a million or get him for 4/5 years minimum

This is a terrible contract unless he is basically an all Star within the next two years and brings us a cup

Justin Holl is fuking ass. Get rid of him immediately.

Dude is the RD version of Marincin. What a soft muffinball

Every option for Seattle is 2 years tops.
Kerfoot 3.5m x 2yrs
Holl 2m x 2yrs
Dermott 1.5m x 2yrs
Engvall 1.25 x 1yr
Hutchinson 725k x 1yr

One of Dermott or Holl likely won't be on that list. I don't see how the 24yr old Dman, with lots of NHL experience, and never given a bigger role than #6dman with limited to no special teams time, wouldn't be an option worth exploring when building a new team. I'm just saying if it's Holl or Kerfoot, I think it's for sure Kerfoot. If it's Dermott or Kerfoot...I'm not so sure

There is tons of D and better D for Seattle to take... They are not going to take 30 D... There wont be many good forwards available and they have to fill a roster as well as hit the cap floor. They will be picking Kerfoot.

Let me simplify this for you. Leafs' fans over rate their players. I could think of 10 guys that will be available before I'd pick Dermott. Capese?

Ya, there's a ton of better players than Dermott that will be available for Seattle. But that was true of Leipsic for VGK, too. Yet they took him. Because they get a player from each team, genius.

If the only options from Toronto are Dermott and Holl, they'll pick Dermott or Holl.

You're rude and dumb.

Well, you also gotta look at what they'll get league-wide from other teams. I think they can find 6 d-men better than Dermott in expansion more easily than they'll find 2 C's better than Kerfoot - with a decent amount of teams going 7-3-1, good middle 6 C's are going to be much harder to come by than good top 4 d-men.

Nah we'll make the playoffs. Thats when we'll beat teams when they're sleep walking or pond skating throughout the regular season.

Because at the end of the day it really not a Talent issue...than it is a work ethic issue. This team don't have the intensity, ruggedness and hustle for the playoffs.

I don’t know about that man. If it’s a normal season and the divisions were what they were pre pandemic, I think it’s far from a guarantee. Remember when the season paused last year until August. The Leafs were hanging onto 3rd from Florida by the thinnest hairs on their ass. And they’re going to have to deal with them, Tampa and Boston for the top 3 in the division, which won’t be easy. And I don’t like their chances of finishing in a WC spot considering the stacked teams that are in the Metropolitan division.

I really think they’re going to be touch and go to make it next year. I really do.
