Why did you keep mentioning the return then?

Carlo hasn't looked good this year but could play better with the Leafs possibly. He's never been anything special though. A generally solid defensive defenseman but he makes some bone headed plays and doesn't use his size enough. He has no offence to his game at all. I'm really happy with the return but I don't think it's a bad trade for the Leafs either. He makes them better this year and that's what they need.

He doesn't need to be special. I don't think the Leafs traded for Carlo thinking he's Makar.

They beat Tampa with Luke Schenn in the backend.

Did you even read my whole post. I gave the Leafs some credit and you're still whining.

I was responding to the majority of the paragraph? Or was I expected to read just the last line?

I said no one's expecting him to be Makar. They beat Tampa with Luke Schenn in the backend who fit the same bill.

He hasn't had the greatest season with the Bruins, but he did look like the Carlo of old these past few games. He played the hardest minutes on the team, mostly had defensive zone starts to shutdown other team's offensive lines, and historically good on the PK. He's big, but he doesn't really use his size. A big reason for the Bruins struggles this year is the outlet passing from D to F. The Bruins were just too slow, but that shouldn't be an issue with the Leafs.

Well your reply basically agreed with it so yeah. You're obviously reading too much into the phrase nothing special. I also said he makes them better.

I don't think he makes them good enough to win the division let alone the Cup but who knows. Beating Tampa two years ago with Schenn on the team has no relevance to this.

Them beating Tampa two years ago is what they have.

When Laval and the Marlies play i was never impressed by Minten and don't really see him being much in the NHL given his play this year... his, first pro year.

Not like he's locked into that role, but it hasn't been a great start

I saw him lauded as a shutdown 2C.

To me he seemed likely to peak as a Silfverberg/Henrique type.

But f***, in Boston, knowing our luck, we just dealt them Bergeron 2.0.
I would love to know who you saw lauding him as a shutdown 2C (Doesn't even sound like a shutdown 2C is a thing). Imo, he maxed out as a shutdown 3C and and even that is a reach.

Getting a big, fairly mobile RHD in his late 20s with quite a bit of experience and possessing pretty high defensive upside at $3.5m for this and the next two seasons is a pretty decent deal for the Leafs. Physicality and offensive ineptitude notwithstanding a high-end pk-strong 3RD is going to cost you at least that much if not more on the open market.

Obviously, the big caveats are his scary injury history and the recent 1.5/2y downturn in his defensive 'production'. If Carlo stays healthy and shows more than a shade of the guy he was pre-24, I don't think the price would be considered 'too steep'.

So if the leafs falter in 2026 that 1st round pick is unprotected too unreal . What more do you want as a bruins fan??
Source??? There aren't alot of details about this trade out yet.. Conditions on the pick definitely not.

The other pick was protected.

it must be unprotected. They traded their 1st for 2027 too. I don’t think they can defer to a 1st 4 years down the road.
