Not getting into the price tag to acquire him, just talking about him as a player, I think he undeniably upgrades the Maple Leafs defence.

But you have to understand what you got. He's a second pairing guy, and while he's big - really big - he is not physical.

Instead of getting frustrated by the fact that he doesn't add toughness or intimidation with that size, instead look at what he does do with that size which is use excellent reach both for poke checking and intercepting passes and blocking lanes but he's also just a big a body to get around and to get tangled up with in tight.

No one wants to hear that their big deadline acquisition is Holl Deluxe but it fits an oddly specific niche where your forwards outside a small handful are diligent backcheckers and your LD are either McCabe doing a decent Muzzin impression or two guys that need to be babysat. Unless you can get a Tanev clone to babysit them in-zone, having a guy that can slow down the neutral zone until the forwards show up is probably the cheapest way to do that.

Minten is practically a late first/early second prospect. It's 3 1sts. Grebenkin probably held equivalent value if not more to a 3rd round pick.

What we got in return was a regressing Dman and a 3C.

I don't hate that we traded or parted with the players - i think we just could have done better for what we had given up.


Hard to believe STL wasn't intrigued by Cowen + Minten + 1st 2026 + 1st 2027 + Grebenkin for example for Parayko + B.Schenn

LOLOLOLOL yah Boston would offer to retain 50%. You can only pray for a long re-tool. Tired of getting ousted, out of the playoffs, by the Bruins.

Your going to learn real quick how soft Carlo is. And that Sweeney robbed the Leafs.

Why isn't Marner re-signed ?

Minten is extremely replaceable. I'm an extremely pro picks and prospects kinda guy but I am in now way concerned that we just traded Minten, Grebs and two late 1st rd picks. I would be very upset if we traded them for rentals but we got both these guys for good prices and retained salary, it's huge that our cap is essentially $2M more than anyone else's next year.

Doesn't work cap-wise even if we got them to retain 50% on both players (not sure if they have 2 retention slots available still anyways). Also Schenn has a m-NTC that he has to waive.

I gave my opinion of Carlo and you swooped in like sea biscuit. You went off on Pastrnak being a hart candidate because? I don’t even know what was going on there.

Anyways. Again, not sure why you didn’t like my assessment of Carlo.

You came in with this hilariously condescending attitude for a guy who cheers for a team that hasn’t won a damn thing. Just odd.

I don't care about it. Is he an upgrade on Timmins who he was brought in to replace?

In Boston he was slotted further up because they're a bad team. He's at best going to be a 4D unless he outplays his position.

Can I be happy that we got a good prospect and a 1st for a rapidly declining D-man?

No Leaf fan has said that, a 3rd line C is likely what he's going to be why we like him so much is because he's ready to be a full time guy as early as next season.

Thing is Toronto needed a top 4 D today and Minten was the price

Sure, but I think your opinion is misguided by the fact the team is rapidly declining. It's why I brought up Pastrnak and Swayman - also declining based on the last 2 years. It could be the team and not the player.

I saw him lauded as a shutdown 2C.

To me he seemed likely to peak as a Silfverberg/Henrique type.

But f***, in Boston, knowing our luck, we just dealt them Bergeron 2.0.

Nah. Carlo isn’t that good. He’s an average stay at home d-man, doesn’t use his size appropriately, and has a long concussion history. He’s got 1 goal on the year and has scored 5 on his own net.

God awful offensive instincts too.

Again, thrilled with the return.

You have a different opinion that all analysts and it's always negative regarding former Bruins so I take your opinion with a grain of salt.

Carlo is bad but Minten who struggles to score in the AHL and a 1st 2 years away is a great return? Sure, you're entitled to that opinion. Most Leafs wanted Minten to be the trade piece.

The same analysts that said Dylan Cozens will come in and act as an enforcer for the Senators? Those guys?

You can take my opinion any way you like. Frankly I don’t care.
