That simply isn't true, cap space was at such a premium that you had to pay to dump it, even with decent players. Flyers put Ghost on waivers no takers, they made Voracek and JVR available in the ED, no takers. Look what other teams paid to dump salaries at that time.

The league had a pretty good idea of Ghost's strengths and weaknesses, after a series of injuries, he wasn't the same player as 2017-18. 2yrs at $4.5M was too rich for that market.

It is true. It actually happened.

People here are such drama queens. "Hissy fit?"

More likely Torts figured the same thing would happen as did with Andrae, a young player would expose himself, get demoted, problem fixed.

Instead, Brink and Foerster both got better and better as they played, Atkinson got 5 goals, no one got injured.

So things dragged out longer than he wanted, eventually moving Laughton down to the 4th line who didn't deserve that either, 5 assists in 9 games, good all around play, 55.88% xGF, bad puck luck (27 shots, 0 goals).

Does drunk on his martini work better?

Nice defense mechanism resorting to name calling. Grow up and stop being disingenuous

Already the 2nd time this season that the Flyers have been linked to taking on a cap dump for a sweetener. I at least appreciate where our head is here.

If we stay in these sorts of discussions long enough, we're bound to encounter a desperate Fletcher for ourselves.

As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported last week, the Capitals spoke with the Montreal Canadiens about taking on Mantha and his $5.7 million cap hit, but a deal has yet to be reached. According to Pagnotta, the Capitals and Habs discussions included Montreal forward Joel Armia, who would have been flipped to another team as part of a three-way move. It is unclear if those negotiations are still open.

Separate sources have also told TFP the Capitals spoke with the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks about Mantha, but the added sweetener to take on Mantha’s contract was not believed to be high enough to entice either team.

You guys expect Frost to be on trade block soon?
More like he can be had if they get an offer they like.

I don’t think they’re actively pushing to unload him.

They’ll be content to keep him & see how it plays out the rest of the season.

If they decide he’s not in their plans, they’ll trade him around the draft.

He's not, unfortunately.

I agree.

I mean, if they plan to play Gauthier at center, they’ve got Couturier-Gauthier-Cates down the middle next season.

Barring a strong offer now, I think they’ll give Frost the rest of the season to potentially up his trade value and/or change their minds (if he really steps it up, they can play Gauthier or Cates at wing next season).

But I think their default expectation at the moment is Frost will not be on the roster in 24/25.

I doubt they've made any decisions, they'd like Frost to show he's the 2C of the future by picking up where he left off last season and playing more consistently.

Laughton, Atkinson, Walker, Hathaway are the obvious trade bait b/c of their age.
Staal, Seeler, Deslauriers if someone offers anything of value.

TK, Frost, Poehling depend on their play.

If TK is a consistent 30+ goal scorer, they're not moving him for a late 1st, 2nd and "B prospect." His offense and his locker room presence is more valuable than that, and they'll extend him.

Poehling has to show he's a reliable bottom six center they can plug in for years to keep him.

Frost has to show he's a legitimate 2C, because in a year they have to decide to extend him.

Hathaway so far seems to be the type cog player that Deslauriers was signed to be. Better skater; better shot and a tougher guy to play against. Other players in the room need to pick up his no nonsense approach to the game. Rather have him on Deslauriers’ deal than Deslauriers.
They’re both playing well.

Deslauriers is playing much better this season, maybe b/c he's playing with real centers who can skate in Poehling and Laughton? Last season the 4C was primarily Brown and Laczynski, with Sedlak for a few games.

CF 49.27%, CFrel -3.80, xGF 59.50%, xGFrel +6.80, HDCF 53.79%, HDCFrel +0.50

Of course, he can't finish to save his life, so these metrics exaggerate his contribution to some extent, but for a 12th forward, he's more than acceptable.

Imagine thinking Cutter makes the team as a 2C next year, Jesus Christ do you all not follow this team.

And even worse, having 2 college wingers as your future centers LOL
Depends on the wings, if you have Michkov and Brink on the wing, they can run the offense in the O-zone.

5.7m cap, we’ve seen the going rate for that. I don’t think it’s a price the caps should be willing to pay

Maybe they should wait and see if Gauthier is even a center. Cates barely is.

A team so devoid of centers that they're routinely looking to shift wingers over shouldn't trade the only proven young center they have. That would be bad management. For some reason you seem to adore bad management though.

Washington is between the rock and the hard place, they have too many longer term veteran contracts to blow it up (won't get much in return) but have no cap room to make moves to be a playoff contender:

Ovechkin (38), 2 more years at $9.5M
Kuznetsov (31), 1 more year at $7.8M
Oshie (36), 1 more year at $5.75M
Mantha (29), $5.7M
Wilson (29), 7yrs at $6.5M
Strome (26), 4yrs at $5M
Carlsson (33), 2yrs at $8M
Jensen (33) 2yrs at $4M
TVR (33) 2yrs at $3M

17. Morgan Frost’s scratch in San Jose renewed the spotlight on his Philadelphia future. Last I’d checked, there wasn’t anything that made the Flyers too eager to move him. And from what I’ve heard, Frost is trying his hardest not to pour gasoline on the fire.
