Stamkos is cooked

  • We're expecting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
It sucks that he's declined as much as he has. He's made millions and millions of dollars and has had a HOF career, but what's Nashville going to do with that contract? Talk about an abject ending to a great career.

Hate to see him struggle, but I won't give up on him yet. Maybe a down year in the grand scheme of things but if there's one thing he has proven, it's the ability to bounce back.

I bet he would have still found a way to be productive in Tampa if only because his shot is still a weapon and on that powerplay Kucherov would have been feeding him slam dunks all year.

But still smart of Tampa to move on from him

The weird thing is that the skating speed stats show that he's still one of the better skaters in the league
That's kind of weird, yeah. I don't really buy that he's one of the faster players at this point. At least not in any way that's impactful. He really hasn't been explosive since he broke his leg, and the last few years his speed has been average-ish.

Here it is for anyone that's interested

Trash.

They forgot this one

Something closer to the middle of what he is and that.

Can't even describe how frustrating it is to see Stammer in Nasville.
It's clear that he was Tampa's product in last few years and it would be really stupid to expect a 35 year-old veteran forward to lead your team, especially in a new place, but oh man... His own goal is like hitting a rock-bottom. Things simply can't get worse from here. At least he got 8x4 contract.

Oh? But speed was the attitude Stamkos was known for, in addition to the shot. At least before he broke his leg.

It's true he's not been explosive but the technique should still be there. He likely struggles with acceleration and also agile turns, as those are expected to be most problematic for his injury.

No one expected Stamkos to lead a team

Nashville should fire sale into a full rebuild, they can probably get something for Stamkos with retention and it's not really a big deal considering this team at absolute best is 4 years away from being even ok.

Stamkos as a sheltered 2nd line winger/3rd line center can still be of use

How does that market respond to a five to the bottom, intentional losing rebuild? Are fans even coming to games now?

All I saw was the one showing he had a high top-speed, which means extremely little in the nhl. I’ve heard dudes like Reaves can move in a straight line, they really book it like a drag car, but ask ‘em to take a corner, parallel park- nah mate. He moved extra fast on one breakaway, is all that particular one says to me, or that his isolated breakaway top speed is great, something that doesn’t come up often.

I trust the tech/stats, I just don’t trust their usefulness. They’re a tool, for a certain time and place. They’re not wrong, they just clearly don’t tell the whole picture.

I mean you can drag it out with this core and continue to finish 11-14 and THEN do the rebuild or you can just bottom out and rebuild right away. The mini run last year shouldn't fool anyone, them being awful before and after and doing nothing in the playoffs is the real story.

They can get some really good assets for what they have now or they can drag it out, get lesser assets later on and still have to do a total rebuild.

Will fans show up if the club signals they are rebuilding?

Stamkos and Nashville both did their part to set this whole thing up for failure.

Was obviously going to happen for everyone not named Trotz.

Imagine being a guy who made 100 million playing hockey and still chasing the money instead of finishing out a great career in a great situation in Tampa as a secondary veteran piece. Hope the tarnish was worth the zero change in your life from the little extra money, Stammer.
