In terms of straight line speed maybe but that says nothing about his ability to accelerate and carry the puck while doing so.
exactlyStamkos signing in Nashville reminds me so much of Messier signing in Vancouver.
He's 35. What exactly were you expecting? He score 50g 100 points?
That's kind of weird, yeah. I don't really buy that he's one of the faster players at this point. At least not in any way that's impactful. He really hasn't been explosive since he broke his leg, and the last few years his speed has been average-ish.The weird thing is that the skating speed stats show that he's still one of the better skaters in the league

Trash.
They forgot this one
Something closer to the middle of what he is and that.
Oh? But speed was the attitude Stamkos was known for, in addition to the shot. At least before he broke his leg. That's kind of weird, yeah. Can't even describe how frustrating it is to see Stammer in Nasville.
It's clear that he was Tampa's product in last few years and it would be really stupid to expect a 35 year-old veteran forward to lead your team, especially in a new place, but oh man... His own goal is like hitting a rock-bottom. Things simply can't get worse from here. At least he got 8x4 contract.
Nashville should fire sale into a full rebuild, they can probably get something for Stamkos with retention and it's not really a big deal considering this team at absolute best is 4 years away from being even ok.It sucks that he's declined as much as he has. He's made millions and millions of dollars and has had a HOF career, but what's Nashville going to do with that contract? Talk about an abject ending to a great career.
How does that market respond to a five to the bottom, intentional losing rebuild? Are fans even coming to games now?Nashville should fire sale into a full rebuild, they can probably get something for Stamkos with retention and it's not really a big deal considering this team at absolute best is 4 years away from being even ok.
Stamkos as a sheltered 2nd line winger/3rd line center can still be of use

I mean you can drag it out with this core and continue to finish 11-14 and THEN do the rebuild or you can just bottom out and rebuild right away. The mini run last year shouldn't fool anyone, them being awful before and after and doing nothing in the playoffs is the real story. How does that market respond to a five to the bottom, intentional losing rebuild? Will fans show up if the club signals they are rebuilding?I mean you can drag it out with this core and continue to finish 11-14 and THEN do the rebuild or you can just bottom out and rebuild right away. They can get some really good assets for what they have now or they can drag it out, get lesser assets later on and still have to do a total rebuild.
