Assuming the draft goes Schaefer to NYI, Misa to SJ, Martone to CHI, I don't expect Utah to take Hagens with Cooley already in the system. If they don't, NYI might have interest in trading for the 5th to lock up the home town kid. Just trying to get an understanding of what NSH would be looking for in that spot - thanks!

If Hagens slides to Nashville at #5, I can't see any way they pass up on them. He's the exact kind of high upside forward they need.

I think if the Islanders want Hagens, they probably should trade down from #1 to #3 and just take Hagens at 3. Chicago has a ton of futures to spare to trade up, which would really help the Islanders lacking prospect pool.

Teams don’t trade down from top picks anymore. It’s pick(+) for core caliber player. That’s Dobson or Barzal in this case; Sorokin doesn’t make sense here. Could Trotz double down to try to win now? He shouldn’t, but he could. He does know both well.

Essentially his signings last season made it seem like he was trying to win now. It didn’t work out but that was the plan based on who he brought in.

It is refreshing that the isles are suddenly the pretty girl everyone wants to dance with

Yea but she's from Long Island.

Our biggest need is a young number one center, it has been our biggest need for almost 30 years. If Hagens drops to us it'll be a miracle, we would absolutely need Ritchie and an unprotected '26 1st coming back minimum and even then I think we'd prefer Hagens.

Okay, okay... the girl who puts out that everyone wants to dance with.
Long Island = constant RBF but is an absolute sweetheat
NYC = looks good but is an absolute miserable human being
Chicago = less pretty version of both (aka a strong 6 version of NYC)
Boston = RBF with that NYC personality
California = Peter Dante in Grandmas Boy

Chicago is probably the last team in the top 5 that needs Schaefer though

I feel like there's a deal to be made with Utah though - I would think they'd be very willing to trade #4 for a young player who can step right in

I thinjs it more alone thr lines of a late night quickie
Easy there. Your Bills avatar gives away too much. Buffalo is that Long Island sorority chick from Medaille/D’Youville/Daemen who’s the last call chick for that late night quickie.

*I graduated from UB so I can make this statement in full confidence.

Nashville wants a center.

If there is any reasonable projection that Hagens might drop to #5, omg, that is a huge WIN for Nashville! But even Frondell or Desnoyers aren't the "end of the world" for the Preds as picks at #5.

There isn't really any big motivation for the Preds to trade up to #1. I think in an ideal world we would have liked to hold onto our #3 slot to ensure we get the guy we like best. But since that ship has sailed...

I just don't see this as a viable trade scenario. Other teams are going to covet the #1 pick/Schaefer more than the Preds would. :dunno:

Trotz unsuccessfully tried to move up at the 2023 Draft for Fantilli/Carlsson/Smith. I'd be a little bit surprised if they chose to trade out of a spot where they'd have some choice between Hagens/Desnoyers/Frondell/O'Brien (although all four would seemingly be a tier below the 2023 group).

Barring any crazy scenarios, atleast 1 of them will be there by 5 so that’s not even something anyone should even think about. Realistically that works out well for Nashville as well. None of these kids this year are truly ready for the NHL and the additional year or two gives them some time to make adjustments so these kids aren’t shell shocked when they step into the lineup.

Nashville is better off just being patient and taking BPA that falls to them at 5th (hopefully Hagens). It would take an absolute haul to move off Hagens if he does fall since we've been looking to draft a potential 1C for basically our entire existence. I can't imagine the fan frustration if this were to happen. Especially after Trotz decided to bring back Bruno. Things are already dicey in Nashville for Trotz, and this would be the type of thing that would make fans call for his head.

Be happy to have won the 1OA. No need to get greedy and wish to get another top 5 pick especially when you have nothing that the Isles can afford to part with.
