Even if they don't make the playoffs, hopefully for the Sens sake this push is enough to convince "The Cat" to resign.

I think the chances were kind of low to begin with but being a bottom-feeder all season almost certainly would've pushed him away.

I'm sure he's seeing the potential this team has now and it's giving him something to think about.

That Chychrun trade was a masterpiece. Got a 1D without giving up anything of great value for the current squad. Sens and Sabres are two great young teams battling for Isles' WC spot. Sabres couldn't have let them get a 1D like that.
Interesting that Sabres GM Kevin Adams in his post deadline interview all but said he offer more to Arizona than Ottawa did.....

Until I see otherwise I'm going with this is just Ottawa's yearly "we're out of the playoffs so let's start winning to get fans excited for next year" phase.

Now that doesn't mean they won't qualify for the playoffs, but I expect a cold run in the next week or two will cool off at least the "waltzing" part.

Last 16 Games

Team A
12-3-1, +24 Goal Differential, 11.5 PP%, 84.8 PK%

Team B
12-3-1, +24 Goal Differential, 20.7 PP%, 87.7 PK%

Team A is the Bruins
Team B is the Senators

Then why did Arizona take Ottawa's offer? Either Adams is lying to save face or was overvaluing his offer.
If the Sabres’ offer was only marginally better, Armstrong might have selected the Senators to please Chychrun. It seems that there’s value in having a reputation for considering players’ preferences that can help attracting free agents.

the theory is that it was out of spite bc Sabres didn't want to include Savoie or Kulich. Honestly, Sabres have enough firepower up front to deal one of them for a 1D that would make their blueline one of the best in the league

imagine having 2 true 1D and Power who'll be one in a year or two

Who knows if they make it, but it’s gonna be a wild ride. Cool to finally have meaningful hockey in the city again.

D corps is looking really nice with Chabot, Chychrun, Hamonic, Sanderson, Zub and Brannstrom. All the pieces are there on the roster, minus a great goalie.

Buffalo is in the same spot as Ottawa, and actually in a way better position on the back end. Ottawa is more desperate for a top four.

Ottawa has fire power up front too. Wanna know what both teams didn’t do?

Rush their window by trading away pieces like Greig/Pinto and Savoie/Kulich.

Armstrong wanted to spite Buffalo for not wanting to include their top prospects, so instead sent a lower deal to Ottawa who also did not want to include their top prospects. Weird.

No waltzing with how good the other teams in the playoff race are and the strength of schedule the Sens face. I think we'll miss out, but these games won't be for nothing.

And the one game Ullmark played Boston won. Like I said earlier the Bruins don't get up for teams like Ottawa, every team is playing Boston like it's game 7 of the SCF. In the playoffs motivation is equal on both sides, Boston will absolutely steamroller Ottawa, only the diehard Sens fans will think they have a chance.
Everything is possible in PO (see St-Louis 2018-9)
But a reasonable take is that Boston would destroy Ottawa in a PO series
They are the best team in the league
Ottawa absolutly not there yet

kudos to Ottawa for getting him without giving up their top prospect

Sabres on the other hand, have a much deeper prospect pool and already a elite young offense (Sens also have a elite offense) . Their star guy also older than Ottawa's.

that trade would push them over the edge and finally bring them back to playoffs after years of starting hot and fading away

Like seeing the Sabres/Sens finally building a team the right way. Both teams deserve a spot in the playoffs. Going to be an interesting finish for WC spot.

I'm hoping the sens make and play Boston.

Sens have the team that can agitate the Bruins and make them play more in the gutter than a chess match game where I think the sens can get the upper hand.

If they want to play a straight up hockey game, sens would battle well, but ultimately be overran in my books
